Elizabeth Stewart, Editor Temple Baptist WMU Held Five-Day Course v Members of the1 Woman's Mis sionary Society of Temple Bap tist church conducted a five-day mission study course in obser vance of the church commemora tion of the week of "Prayer and Self Denial" last week. Program speakers for the week were Mrs. Robtert Grlgg, Jr., Mrs. Annie MAe Dover, Mrs. D. N. Mor ris, Mrs. George Thornburg, and Mrs. E. B. Cooke. Dtscussfons centered around "The Star and Its Characteris tics" showing Its influence a round commmil&m, wordly disor- j ?1er. and Christianity. Meetings were held at the church. ' Winners Announced In Tuesday Bridge Winners in the regular master point bridge game played last Tuesday, December 1, at Gaston Country club were announced this week; Mr. and Mrs. C. E. War lick scored fourth in East-West play division. Other winners follow: North- South; Mrs. T. II. Wil kinson arid Tprrell Wilkinson of Lincolnton, first; Mrs. J. P. Little and Dr. Arthur Dye, Charlotte, second; Mrs. Harry Kalis and Mrs. Paul Hitch, third; and Mrs. Phil Jackson and Mrs. Mart Reid, fourth. ? ? , Holding high score for East West were Dr. A. C. Miss" Joann Wright Gives Wedding Plans Miss Martha Joann Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Lawson Wright of Kings Moun tain, today announces plans for her wedding to Clyde Elem Seism of Lawndale. son of Mr. and Mrs. Clem Dixon Seism of Lawndale, which Is tb take place Sunday, December thirteenth, at four o'clock in the afternoon in Cen tral Methodist church here. Rev. P. L. Shore, Jr., minister of the bride, will hear the couple pledge marriage vows, and Miss Bonnie Mcintosh, organist, and B. S. PeeJer, Jr., vocal-soloist, wiil present a program of nuptial wedding music prior to and dur ing the exchange of vows. George L. Wright will glvte his daughter in marriage, and Joe Seism of LaWndale, brother of the groom, will attend his brother as best-man. Mrs. James Seiagraves of Gas tonia, sister of the groom, wilt attend the bride as matron -of honor, and Miss Jane Osborne of Kings Mountain, the bride's cou sin, and Miss Barbara Huggins of Gastonia will serve as brides maid 'attendants. Usher-groomsmen will Include James Seism of Lawndale, broth: er of the groom, and Bill Bowen and Soiiry Byers, both of Shelby. There will be no reception after (he ceremony but the bride and groom with members of their wedding party will great guests in the church vestibule. Robin Saunders Feted Wednesday On Birthday Mr. and Mrs. David Saunders entertained at a birthday party last Wednesday afternoon compli menting their daughter, Robin, who was celebrating her second birthday anniversary. The dining room tablte of the home held a large birthday cake decorated with a miniature Santa and two miniature reindeer can dles. A Christmas tree, Santa boots, and other Christmas ar rangements were usted in decora tion throughout the home. Upon arrival each guest was | given a horn and a colored bal loon taken from the decorations in one of the party rooms. Toys were distributed to the children for play, and pictures were made of the group. One of the honoree's guests, Bill Herndon also celebrating his se cond birthday anniversary, was presented a gift. "Happy Birth day" was sung around the re freshment table, wherte iced cup cakes decorated with candy San tas, and Ice cream was served the children and their mothers. Guests present were Linda Falls, Rita Fulton, Lynn Harmon, Mary Ann Morrison, Robyn Nteill, Debbie Tlmms, Llbby Trott, Dean na Saunders, Rocky Goforth, Jimmy Grayson, Tommy Gray son. Bill Herndon, Buck Mauney, Mrs. M. L. Houser. Mrs. M. G, Poston, and Mr. and Mrs. Saun ders, the hosts. Before leaving, the guests were given miniature reindefer with colored candies. The honoree opened her gifts and displayed them to her guests. Mrs. Conrad Hughes Dixon Circle Hostess Circle No. 1 of Dixon Presby terian church held their Decem ber meeting Saturday night with Mrs. Conrad Hughes as hostess. Mrs. P. D. Patrick, Bible lead er, presented the Bible study for the month, and Mrs. Thomas N. Humphries, circle chairman, call ed the business pprt of the meet ing to order and presided over the business session. Plans were completed for a Joy gift program during the Christmas season. Following the business session, a social hour was enjoyed. Mrs. Hughes was assisted in serving light refresh ments with cold drinks. Spelling Winners Given In Contest Winners in the "Spelling Bete" contest held Friday night at Kings Mountain Woman's club under sponsorship of the Fine Arts Department of the Woman's club were announced by Mrs. W. G. Grantham, department chair* man, and Mrs. H. L. Campbell, chairman in charge of publicity, this wetek. Martha Matthews, eighth grade student at West school, was winner in the young people's division of the contest, Mrs. Au brey Mauney was winner in the adult division, and Mrs. Walter A. Grantham w^s winner in the third spellfers group. Rev. P. L. Shore, Jr., pastor of Central Methodist church, con ducted the contest, which began at 8 o'clock, and in which all area citizens had been invited to enter. Prizes from the club department wtere presented to the three group winners. Cake-walk winners were Mrs. O. W. Myers, Mrs. J. K. WilUs, and Patsy Ledford. Cakes, cook ies, candies, pies, and other, items were sold during the evening, and an auction of handmade Christmas gift selections was held. The club house was decorated to resemble an old-fashioned schoolroom with desks, chairs, dunce stools, blackboards, wood stove, and pictures placed on the club walls. The . schoolmaster wore a conventional high-top hat and old-fashioned clothing and some df the members of the school's student-body wore old fashioned sun ? bonnets, lace shoes, and other costumes. At the conclusion of the pro gram, members of the Fine Arts Department gave Rev. Shore a cake, in observance of his birth day anniversary Friday. Proceeds from the event bene fited the Fine Arts Department of the Woman's club, sponsors for the project, to continue pro ject work during the year.
