Patrick as hostess at her home on E. King street. Mrs. Hubert Davidson, circle chairman, presided over the busi ness session. Plans were complet ed for sending Christmas bas kets to needy families in the com munity. Mrs. Patrick, Bible leader, pre sented the Bible study, complet ing the yearly discussion ? study on "Portraits of the Master." Mrs. II. R. Webb, program chairman for December, gave a program on "The Joy Gift" and a preview of the Jdy Gift pageant to be presented by young peo ple's groups of the church was given. Plans were discussed for a Christmas banquet t6 be held Saturday night, December 12th, at Robin Wood Lake in Gastonia. Refreshments were served to 23 members of the club by the hostesses, Mrs. Bud McDaniel, Mrs. Henry Lewis, and Mrs. Gene Steffy. The door prize went to Mrs. Jack Howell of Charlotte. One guest was present. Methodist Circle II Held Afternoon Meeting Circle No. II of Central Metho dist church met Monday after noon at the home of Mrs, H. C. Mayes on E. Ridgfc street with Mrs. Hubert Carlisle as co-hos tess. Mrs. J. O. Plonk, Sr., gave a devotional ? meditation and read a Christmas legend entitled, "The Little Star." Mrs. Mayes, the hos tess, presided over thle business session and read to the group a reading entitled. "Plants and Flo wers of the Bible." Following the meeting a Christ mas carol song-fest was held. The hostesses passed delicious re freshment plates to the group. Mrs. C. A. Butterworth closed the meeting with prayer. A shower of miscellaneous gifts was presented to thte hono ree, who opened the gifts and displayed them. Mrs. Paul Mauntey, Bible lead er, presented the Bible study after a program presented by Mrs. George Moss, program chairman for December. Mrs. Blanton, the hostess, con ducted the business stesslon. She was assisted in serving delicious refreshments when the meeting was adjourned. A social period was enjoyed. A musical program for the meeting was rendered by Miss * Non - Support Defendant Appeals Veidict Raymond Jackson, Kings Moun tain native now living near Gas t on ia, was found guilty of non support of his two children, agted eight and eleven years, in Kings Mountain. Recorder's court here Monday and given ah 18-month suspended sentence. Charges were warranted by tW1 defendant's wife, Mrs. Lois Jack son, resident of S. Cherokee street here, who told the court her husband had not seen his children in five years. She testi fied that the defendant had aban doned his family in September of ?45. The defendant plead guilty to the charges. Case was suspended on payment of a $300 compliance bond through the court clterk's office, payment of $20 weekly for Melba Tindall, soloist, and Mrs. F. R. McCurdy, piano accompan ist. the support and maintenance of the, children, and payment of court costs. Jackson gave notice of appeal and the case was transferred to Shelby for trial at the ntext ses sion of Superior Court. The de fendant mafe bond of $350. George B. Thomasson, Kings Mountain attorney, represented the prosecution. . "A guilty verdict in such a case," Judge White com mented, "would only result when the defendant charged with drunk and disorderly conduct is arrest ed in a public place and not in a private home." k\Capais was issued for George Edgerton, Negro, who is prosecu ting witness in a case charging the defendant, Robert Edgterton, with assault with intent to kill.
