Honors Weekend Guests
Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Willis were
hosts at bridgte Saturday evening
at their home on West Mountain
Street.
The party complimented Mr.
and Mrs. C. A. Butterworth, Jr.,'
of Aiken, S. C., who were week
end guests of their parents here.
Bridgfe was played at three
tables with prizes awarded to
Mrs. C. T. Carpenter, Sr., high
for ladles, and Mrs. H. A. Logan,
Jr., second high winner. Jimmy
Willis won high for men with L.
E. Abbott receiving second high
award.
A dessert course with coffee
was passed. Rooms of the home
wtere decorated with arrange
ments of pot plants, Mher bowl
flowers, and seasonal '?co ration.

Held Meeting Here Monday
The Kings Mountain Chapter
, of the Erskinte Alumnae met
Monday evening in the home of
Mrs. W. K. Crook.
After the singing of the Alma
Mater, Mrs. John Gamble offered
a prayer for Erskine college.
Miss Elizabeth Anthony pre
sented a vtery interesting pro
gram on "Negroes in General and
Their Contribution to Education
and Art." In her discussion she
included some of the outstanding
accomplishments of Booker T.
Washington, George Washington
Carver, and Mary Bethune. She
also told of thte contribution that
Negroes had made in folk music,
and in poetry writing.
Frank Sellers, student at Ers
kine college, was a special guest
of the Alumnae. He delighted the
members with. a group of Nfegro
spirituals. He was accompanied
by Mrs. N. F. McGlll.
Mrs. E. W. Neal concluded the
program with the poem, "Crea
tion", by Jane Weldon Johnson.
Mrs. J. C, McGlll announced
that $188.50 had been contributed
to the Scholarship Fupd, the pro
ject of the chapter.

gram. The. hostess, assisted by
Mrs. I. G. Patterson, Mrs. J. L.
McGlll, and Mrs. John Gamble

Hosts At Buffet Supper
College students and service
man were honor guests at a din
ner given last Wednesday by
members of the Young People's
Christian Union of Boyce Memo
rial ARP church.
The recreation room of the Ed
ucational building was attractive
ly decorated with a color scheme
of ited and white. Potted plants
added to the attractiveness of the
scene.
About thirty members and
guests gathered at 7 o'clock and
enjoyed a turkey dinner with ac
cessories. The dinner was sferved
buffet style, and guests found
their places by attractive hand
made place cards.
After the dinner, the group en
Joyed a program of Informal en
tertainment.

Mrs. Marshall Heavner under
went a major operation at Gat
ton Memorial hospital, Gastonla,
Monday. She will be hospitalized
for a week or ten days, members
of her family said Tuesday.
