Mr*. J. H. Patterson Contract Club Hostess Contract Bridge club members mtet Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. J. H. Patterson as club hostess. Guests playing, in addition to club members, were Mrs. W. B. Thorium. Mrs. Sam Stallings, Mrs. J. O. Plonk, Jr., and Mrs." G. E. Bridges. Arrangements of berries, fruit, and greenery were used in deco ration. Mrs. Thorburn won high score award for thb evening and Mrs. Sam Stallings won the se cond-high award. Mrs. Patterson was assisted in serving a salad plate with des sert and coffee. First Baptist Group Held Regular Meeting Mrs. C. C. Edens was hostess to members of the Kathaleen Mallory circle of First Baptist church when the group held its January meeting Tuesday after noon. Mrs. Jack Hullender, circle chairman, called the meeting to order and presided over the busi ness session. Mrs. L. L. Benson, program chairman, had arranged a pro gram discussion for the month. Ten members attended the meet ing. During thte social hour follow tag the meeting, the hostess was assisted In jfessing refreshments. Mrs. Deck Fulton returned Sun day from Cleveland, Ohio, where ; ahe spent the previous week with Mr. and Mrs. Giles Cornwell. Fred Hancock. Mr. and Mrs. John Wilson Watts and son of Charlotte wtere visitors Saturday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hancock. J. K. Miller of Winder, Ga., re turned home Monday after spending several days with his sister, Mrs. J. R. Davis, and Mr. Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Frank White and son, Richard, and H. H. White were Sunday night dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Turner of Gastonla. Mrs. Fred Hancock returned home Saturday from Kings Mountain hospital where she has undergone treatment for double pneumonia.. She will be confined to hter bed for the next week or ten days, members of the family said Tuesday. Mrs. Gene Roberts returned to her home Sunday after undergo ing an operation at Memorial hospital in Gastonla. y Mr. and Mrs. Gene White and daughter, Snow, of Sylva, for merly of Shelby, spent the week end with Mr. White's parents, Ml*, and Mrs. G. W. White here, and with Mrs. White's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Chapman of Shelby. Miss Nancy Gay and Master David Bargar of Jamestown, New York, are guests of their maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Griffin while their parents, Mr. and Mrs. RObfert S. Bargar are on a vacation flight to Jamaica, British West Indies. Upon returning to the states, Mrs. Bargar and children will accom pany her parents to Florida for an extended stay at their winter cottage at Palm Harbor. Dozier Circle Meeting Held Hero On Tuesday Members of the Dozier circle of First Baptist church met Tues day afternoon with Mrs. Tim Iturd as hostess. Mrs. Rowtell Lane, circle chair man, conducted the business ses sion. Mrs. B. N. Barnes and Mrs. Harold Crawford had arranged a program for the meeting. Seven members of the circle were present. During the social hour refreshments were served. Doris Jean Dellinger Feted At Birthday Party Mrs. Edgar Dellinger entertain ed at a birthday party Sunday afternoon complimenting her daughter, Doris Jean, who was celebrating her third birthday an niversary. The party was held at the home of the honoree's maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs, R. N. Parrish, on DUling street. Party decorations were used throughout the home and favors, were presented each guest. Games were directed and ice cream and cake served at the dining room table. The birthday cake in yellow and white centered the refresh ment table, and places were set for Carolyn Heavner, Cathy Elli son, Linda Pearson, Linda and Brenda Parrish, and Debbie and Shirley Sprouse. . Uhe honoree was the recipient of many nice and useful gifts. Methodist Circle I Held Tuesday Meeting Members of Circle No. I of Central Methodist church met Tuesday morning with Mrs. W. M, Gantt as hostess. Mrs. P. E. Hendricks gave the , devotional for the meeting, and Mrs. Boyer Murray was in charge of the program. Mrs. J. T. Lathem, circle chair man, presided over the business session. Mrs. J. W. Crosland of Bennettsville, S. C., mother of Mrs. Hendricks, was a visitor. Alter the meeting, a social hour was enjoyed. Delicious refresh ments were served. Mrs. James Hamrick Circle Hostess Monday Members of Circle No. 4 of Central Methodist church held their regular January mteting Monday evening with Mrs. Ja mes S. Hamrick as hostess at her home on. Meadowbrook road. Mrs. David L. Saunders was In charge of the devotional period and Mrs. Pink Ware presented the program. Topic for discussion was "Love Never Falleth". Mrs. Hamrick, chairman, pre sided over the business session. Members planned a Stanley party at the March meeting of the cir cle at- the home of Mrs. Ralph Mauney. During the social hour, the hos tess was assisted in serving pe can pie and coffee. Members ad journed their meeting by pray ing "The Lord's rfayop"< Mrs. Marshall Heavner is a patient in Gaston Memorial hos pital, Gastonla, where she under went a major operation last week. D. Patrick, pastor of the bride, read the vows of the double ring service to the couple before an improvised al tar of lighted candles and green ery banked on the living room mantel. Bowls of seasonal flow ers were used on the piano. The couple entered the cere mony room unattended. For her wedding, the bride chose a navy blue two-piece suit with accessories in black and a white shoulder corsage of white carnations pinned to her suit shoulder. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Jenkins of Kings Mountain, Is a graduate of Kings Mountain high school and is em ployed by Dixite Home Stores in Gastonia. The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs T. Stough Wright of Grover, is a graduate of Grover high school and attended North Carolina State College at Ra leigh last year. He is associated in business with his father. Mr. and Mrs. Wright have re turned from a wfcdding trip and are at home at 304 King street here. Mrs. J. E. Herndon Hostess At DAR Meet TH* Colonel Frederick Ham bright chapter o 1 the D. A, R. met at the home of Mrs. J. E. Herndon on Wednesday after noon, January 6. The home was a very attractive setting lor the meeting. Eleven members were present. Mrs. Herndon, regent, opened the meeting with the regular D. A. R. ritual. Alter the reading of the minutes, Mrs. Herndon read the President General's message. Mrs.' James Anthony read a let ter ol thanks lor the Christmas box, valued at $20.99 sent to the Veteran's Hospital. The chapter voted to investigate and' continue plans lor the ejection ol a mark er at Long Creek cemetery. Mrs. Herndon reported, that $50 had been donated to the projtect. Delegates were elected lor the Continental Congress to be held in Washington in April and lor the State Conference to be held in Durham in March. Mrs. T. M. Shulord, program chairman lor the alternoon, talk ed on "Fostering 100% Ameri canism" with emphasis on the Genocide convention and the Bricker Amendment Mrs. W. T. Weir presented na tional defense news and a petition to be signed favoring the Bricker Amendment During the social hour, the hos tess served a delicious cfessert course with accessories. Mrs. W. L. Pressly was a special guest lor the alternoon. Rebecca Stowe Honored At Birthday Party Rebtecca Stowe celebrated her eighth birthday Tuesday and was honored at a birthday party by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Stowe, Jr., in the alternoon. Games were directed through out the party by Itfrs. Stowe and Mrs. Margaret Spivey, with pri zes ol candy and chewing gum givlen to the winners. Alter the games, Mrs. Stowe was assisted by Mrs. Spivey in serving ice cream, cake, candy, and colas. Balloons were given each guest as favors. Park Superintendent Spoke To Gaston DAR "The Battle of Kings Moun tain" has boon chosen as essay subject for the William Gaston Chapter, DAR, sponsored fessay contest now in progress in Gas ton city and county schools. Bon Moomaw, superintendent j of the National Park here, spoke j at a meeting of the Gaston cfiap ter last week and suggested tNe topic to members of the DAR.
