Norma Lee Slpes introduced Mr- Abbott, who spoke to the stnrient body on the part charac ter plays in every individual's life. "Character," said Mr. Ab bott, "is not inherited; neither is it obtained as a gift." It is Mr. Abbott's belief that this trait, one of the four cardinal princi ples upon which the Honor So ciety is founded, is of most im portance. He pointed out that scholarship, leadership, and ser vice are important but that with out charter these cannot <be at tained. She was a native of Union county, daugh ter of the late Isaac and Llllie Dixon Long of Union County. She had made her home on Indian Trail on route 1 in Lenior for many years. Surviving, in addition to her two brothers and her husband are one son, Robert Davis Or mand, USN, and .a brother, Ben F. Long, of Spartanburg, S. C.
