Gixls Lose 60-27 To Undefeated Lincolnton Glub Kings Mountain high school's Mountaineers, in command all the way, handed a previously un defeated Lincolnton quint its first loss of the season here Tuesday night. The scorle was 52-43 as the two schools split a South Group* Western AA Conference twin bill, the undefeated visiting lassies taking the opener 60-27. Ollie Harris set the pace for the winners by scoring thfe first six points of the game in the op ening three minutes and Kings Mountain was never headed. The Mountaineers led at the end of the first turn by 11-3 and by 22-15 at thfc half. In the third period, Kings Mountain almost doubled the margin and took a commanding 36-23 lead at the end of the canto. The winners went into fast break plays in the fourth period when Lincolnton went into a press and blazed away for 11 points while holding the visitors to five bbfore Coach Don Parker sent in his second team, with 3:18 left on the clock, to finish > out the game; Harris led the scoring with 17 points and Milton Hope hit 14. Darrell Bost was high for the losers, hitting 16 points, 11 in the final chapter. Despite the fact that the Moun taineers were in command, the game was fast and well-played, with stellar Kings Mountain de fensive play a major factor in the victory. The winners shot out to a 19-2 first period mar gin and were never headed dfe spite a gallant effort by the los ers. It was the Lincolnton girls' 12th win of the season, 11 in South Group play. Layton's rebounding was a feature of the first three minutes of boys play, when Harris hit his opening six i*>ints. Pride Rat ter ree. >J-vear-old line coach at Lfenoir Rhyne College and former Wake Forest football star and Kings Mountain native, has been named line coach at Wake Forest, according to an announcement by Athletic Director James II. Wea ver. Ratterree joined thte Deacon staff Monday in time to assist Head Coach Tom Rogers with spring football practice. Other members of the Wake Forest coaching staff are end coach Pat Preatun and backiield coach Jahiv (Red) Cochran. Ratterrte, a guard, was a mem ber of the powerful Deacon team of 1944, which complied an 8-1 record and the 1945 team which went to the fir?? annual Gator Bowl In Jacksonville, Fla., and defeated South Carolina 26-14. He lettered in basktetbaH also in 1944 .45. After graduation with a BS de gree in 1946, Ratterree played for one year with the Chicago Cardi nals before accepting a position as assistant coach at Staunton Military Academy In Virginia. He became hoad coach at Staunton in 1948 and served in that capacity until he was appointed line coach at Lenoir Rhyne in the fall of 1949. At Lenoir Rhyne Ratterree was noted for his strong lines which ranked with the best in the North State Conference. He served also as assistant basketball coach at the Hickory school. As a student at Wake Forest, Ratterree was a member of Kap pa Sigtna fraternity, the student council and the Monogram Club. He was named to the Greensboro Daily News all-state team in 19-15. Coach Ratterree is a graduate of Kings Mountain high school, class of 1910, where he played four years on the football team. He is the son of Mrs. P. G. Rat terree and the late Mr. Ratterrbe. He is married to the former Edna Rowe, of Morganton, sister of Mrs. Hal D.
