H EUunbeth Stewart, Editor Made Stevenson Circle Held Meeting On Monday Members of the Made Steven win circle of Boyce Memorial ARP church met Monday evening at the home of Mrs. J. C. McGiU. . Mrs. M. A. Ware, program chairman, had arranged a pro gram for the meeting. She was as sisted in presenting the program by Mrs. John Gamble, Mrs. Gar rison Goforth, Mrs. Gene Steffy, and Miss Ava "Ware. During the business session, of ficers of the circle were elected and circle hostesses and program leaders appointed. Mrs. M. A. Ware was elected circle chairman with Mrs. Don Crawford elected secretary, and Mrs. Martin Har mon elected circle treasurer. During the social hour, Mrs. McGiU was asslr.'ed in passing refreshment*. Fourteen members attended the meeting, which was the first meeting of the circle for the church year. The home was decorated, with Jonquils and arrangements of other Bpring flowers. Sub-Deb Dance To Be Held At Country Club Saturday A Sub-Deb dance honoring Kings Mountain Country club members' children who ape In the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades will be held at the Coun try club Saturday night ' from 8 o'clock until 10 o'clock. Each child may invite onb and a couple. Admission Is $1.00 per couple and reservations are re quested by noon Saturday. Hostesses for the dance will be Mr. and Mrs. Brute Thorburn, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Page, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Smathers, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Mauntey, and Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Neisler, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Cooper and Dr. and Mrs. P. G. Padgett left Monday for a vacation In Palm Harbor, Fla. They will rfeturn to their homes here on Sunday. NEW EASTERN' STAR OFFICERS ? Duplicate Bridge Club Held Meeting Monday Duplicate Bridge club members met Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. J. M. Cooper with Mrs. Joe Davis as hostess. Mrs. P. E. Hendricks and Mr3. W. K. Mauney, Jrv tied for high scorte In bridge for the afternoon. During progressions, Mrs. Davis was assisted in passing a dessert course with coffee. Arrangements of spring flow ers were used In decoration throughout the home. Bridge Luncheon Held At Country Club Tuesday Regular monthly bridge lun cheon at Kings Mountain Country club was held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. Bridge was played at two tables and luncheon was served at 1 o'clock by Mrs. B. B. Speidel, club hostess. Mrs. Hayne Blackmer won high score In bridge. Now Officers Elected At Baptist GA Meeting Members of the Stella Austin GA's of First Baptist church met Tuesday af ternoon at the home of Mrs. Howard Ware, their leadter. The meeting was opened with the pledge of allegiance and wat ch word. Program for the meeting was entitled, "I Would Be True" and was presented by Barbara Brown, Jackie Merrill, Reta Hamrick, Melba Andrews, Linda White, Sa rah Cox, Margaret Wells, and Martha Lou Ware. Carolyn Walker, president, con ducted the business session and | officers to head the organization for the nbxt six months were | elected. Brenda Bridges was elected j president, Sarah' Cox, vice-presi dent, Betty Sue Kirby, secretary, Carolyn Walker, program chair man, Barbara Brown, chairman of the social committee, Brenda Thornburg, chairman of the Com munity Missions project, and Lin da White, chairman of the Mis- 1 sion program. ' ARP Church Circle Held Monthly Meeting Frances Garrison circle mem bers of Boyce Memorial ARP church met Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. E. Blakely. Mrs. I. G. Patterson and Mrs. Blakely, the hostess, were pro gram chairmen for the afternoon and presented a program on "Stewardship." During the business session, members elected Mrs. Blakely chairman of the circle and ap pointed circle program topics and circle hostesses for the year. A social hour followed the busi I ness session. Ten members of the [circle attenued the meeting. Warlick Scored First In Club Bridge Games C. E. Warlick was high scorer, Sam Davis- was second and Geor ge Ilouser was third in bridge games during the months of Feb ruary and March at Kings Moun tain Country club. In Anna, Illinois Mrs. Frances Stapp Allen of Du Quoin, Illinois, and Everett Weldon Bridges of Kings Moun tain were united in marriage In a simple ceremony at the First Presbyterian church of Anna, Illinois, on Monday afternoon, March 15, at 5 o'clock. The Reverend John W. Bur horn, pastor of the church, heard the couple exchange vows of the double-ring service. The couple entered the church together. For her wedding, the bride wore a navy blue lace dress with navy and white accessories.' The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Stapp of Du Quoin, Illinois, Is a graduate of Du Quoin Township high school and is employed as a telephone op erator by the General Telephone Con>jp*ny? Mrs. Bridges wll complete her duties with the telephone company on June 15 and will come to Kings | Mountain, whiere the couple will make their home. Mis. Shorts' Father Passes , Funeral stervioes for. Alpha B. Kanipe, 77, of Del Rio, Tenn., father of Mrs. Lender Short of Kings Mountain, were conducted last Saturday at 2 p. m. at the Glenwcod Methodist church In Marlon. Rites were conducted by Rev. Paul Dennis of Marion, and Rev. Mr. Turner of Dfel Rio, Tenn. In terment was in the Neal ceme tery, Marion. Mr. Kanipe, a former resident of Kings Mountain, died at his home March 17, at 11 p. m., after a brief illness. He was a retired textile worker and farmer. Survivors Include his wife, Mrs. Dollie Poole Kanipe; two sons, Lawton Kanipe of Marion, and MaiYley Kanipe of Del Rio. Tenn.; five daughters, Mrs. Cllf'cxl Greene of Del Rio, Tenn., al*?. Ben Go forth, Jr., science and math; Mrs. Helen Baker, fifth grade; Mrs. Winnie Vera Still, fourth grade; and William Oorge, principal and eighth grade teacher. Tenn., and Mrs. Vlrgie Clarke of Gastonla; 37 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He Is also survived by one bro ther, Joe Kanlpe of Old Fort, and one sister, Annie Nobblltte of Old Fort.
