Thursday night for their regular
monthly meeting. Miss Lyna Ba
ker offered the. opening prayer.
Miss Pat Henderson, vice-presi
dent, called thte meeting to order
and presided over the business
session in the absence of Miss
Norma Lec Stpes, president.
Miss Lyvonne Lindsay, pro
gram chairman for the meeting,
was in chargie of the program,
which was entitled, "The Duties
of Each YWA Member." She also
gavp the devotional.
Miss Kay Henderson gave the
"Duties of the Secretary and
Treasurer" and Miss Pat Hender
son discussed, "The Duties of
Vice-President." Miss Joan Tho
masson discussed, "The Duties of
the Community Missions Chair
man", find Mrs. James Watson,
leader of the group, discussed oth
er phases of GA work.
The group voted to give month,
ly to the Sunbeam organization,
and members closed their meet
ing with prayer. Thirteen mem
bers and three visitors attended
the mete ting. Miss Pat Freeman
was welcomed as a new member.
During the social hour, Mlssj
Joan Thomasson and Miss Melba
Tindall passed cookies, colas, and
nuts. Miss Baker will be hostess
at the May meeting of the group.

A program for the meeting was
given by Mrs. E. A Harrill, pro
gram chairman for the meeting,
and during the social hour follow
ing the meeting, Mrs. Parsons
was assisted in serving a dessert
course.

meeting at the Woman's club
house, reviewed club projects lor
last year, and heard a program
on "Public Welfa'-e."
Mrs. Franklin Pethel, program
chairman, presented the program,
and Mrs. Denver King, club presi
dent, presided. v
Year projects of the club, as re
viewed by the president, were con
tributions to support of :1) Cas
well Training School; 2) Chil
dren's Home Soctety; 3) Bible
teacher in city schools; and 4)
Restoration of Independence Hall.
Club members conducted a house
to-house canvass for the March of
Dimes, sold stamps for wounded
veserans, and collected clothing
to be distributed by the Welfare
department.
i Nine members of the club were
appointed delegates to attend the
State convention of Junior clubs
to be held at the Biltmore Hotel
in Asheville April 27-30. Mrs.
King, Mrs. Clyde Bridges, Mrs.
James Jonas, Mrs. D. W. Blantort,
Mrs. G. C. Yelton, Miss Diana
Gamble, Mrs. W. R. Hudspeth,
Mrs. Furman Wilson, and Mrs.
J. B. Falls are to attend the three
day session.
Plans were made to complete
club scrapbooks to .enter in con
test at the convention In Asheville
and plans were completed for a
cake sale to be conducted by the
club on Saturday, April 17.
A committee was appointed to
assist the Woman's club at the
District meeting of all woman's
clubs to be held at the Kings
Mountain club In September.
The May meeting of the club is
to be Welti at the Hotel Barrlnger
in Charlotte. Mrs. Ralph Harkey
is guast speaker.

Mrs. W. R. Hudspeth, and Mrs. W.
M. Eldon.
Mrs. Frances Hord Petty was.'

Members of Circle III of Cen
tral Methodist church held their
regular monthly meeting Monday
afternoon at the home of' Mrs.
Pat Tignor on East King strteet.
At the beginning of the meet
ing, a social hour was enjoyed
and the hostess was assisted by
Mrs. Florence Hill in serving a
salad and sweet course with Rus
sian tea. A miniature basket of
Easter teggs decorated each plate.
Mrs. E. B. Olive gave the de
votional on "Christ's Farewell
Sermon" before a program pre
sented by Mrs. M. H. Biser.
Mrs. Olive, circle chairman, pre
sided over the business session.
Members adjourned their meet
ing with prayer.

Father's Night Observed
By Central School PTA
Father's Night was observed at :
the March meeting of the Central
school Parent - Teacher Associa- j
tipn and over 300 parents and tea- j
chers attended.
Members of the four first gra
des of the school presented the
program for the meeting. Mrs.
Beam's pupils gave the devotion- i
al entitled, "Truly God Is Great"
and Mrs. Warlick's pupils gave
toy band numbers. Mr?. Harrill's
room presented a playlet entitled,
'The Wonderful Clock", and Miss
Covington's pupils concluded the
program with dance numbers.

schdol band played selectibns un
der the direction of Joe Hedden.
During the business session, of
ficers for the 1954-55 school year
were elected. Mrg. J. P. Mauney
will serve as president with Rev.
P. L. Shore, Jr., vice-president,
Miss Marie Lineberger, secretary,
and Mrs. B. N. Barnes, treasurer.
Mrs. Maunfey and Rev. Mr. Shore
were elected delegates to repre
sent the PTA at a convention to
be held in Raleigh.
Mrs. J. C. McKlnney, retiring
president, presided.
Miss Covington's room won the
attendance cup. New officers of
the PTA will be installed at the
April meeting.
After the business meeting, the
hospitality committee served re
freshments in the school cafeter
ia.

Held Meeting In Shelby
Members of the Magnolia Gar
den club met Friday afternoon at
the home of Mrs. E. C, McClain
in Shelby with Mrs. Garrison Go
lorth as hostess.
Monochromatic arrangements
of tulips and Jonquils were dis
played by Teams I and II. Mrs.
Jack White's Team No. I scored
the highest number of points.

Mrs. John Mitchem has return
ed from Augusta, Ga., where she
was called last week because of
the illness of her grandson, Dan
ny Abernathy. Sam Mitchem and
Mr. Mitchem accompanied Mrs.
Mitchem from Georgia. Young
Abernathy is the son of Mr. and
Mrs, Paul Abernathy. His condi
tion was reported as Improved
Tuesday.
