Carter have returned from a Life Insurance convention in session in New Orleans, La. Mr. Coble Is assistant manager of the Lifte Insurance Company of Virginia with offices here, and Mr. Rose, Mr. Harmon, and Mr. Carter are agents. The convention, an annual af fair, included a banquet at the Charles Hotel In New Orleans, a boat cruise up the Mississippi, and other sight seeing tours of the city. City Bond Sale To Be April 27 The Local Government Com mission at Raleigh will receive bids on $600,000 In City of K'.rgs Mountain bonds, as authorized In a special election in January, on April 27, It has notified City At torney J. R. Davis. The bonds will be offered in two issues, (450,000 wafer and sewer bonds, and $150,000 recrea tion facilities bonds. All the bonds will be dated May 1, The Water and Sewer bonds will be a 30-year series and will mature annually on May 1 as fol lows: $8,000 from 1956 to 1960; $10,000 from 1961 to 1966; $20,000 from 1967 to 1983, all dates inclu sive, and $10,000 in 1984. Thte $150,000 recreation bonds will be a 20-year series and will mature annually from May 1 as follows: $4,000 from 1955 to 1959 j $5,000 from 1960 to 1963; and $10, 000 from 1964 to 1974, all dates inclusive. Mayor Glee A. Bridges and City Attorney J. R. Davis conferred with Local Government commis sion officials last week, and Mr. Davis said the state officials re ported the bond market favor able. F. R. Summers, president, said the change, which will mean no difference in thte bank's capitali zation, was an effort on the part of the bank to broaden owner ship of the stock as well us to in crease the participation by pre sent minority stockholders. He said stockholders of the bank gave thte directors a go-a head on the proposal at the an nual meeting in January and that the U. S. TreasuVy, which governs national banks, has given its ap proval to the proposal. Goal of the campaign is $5,420. Commit te chairmen and solici tors are urged to turn in their reports by Friday, and all per sons who have not contributed to the fund are bfelng urged to do so, Mr. McDanlel said. Additional gifts reported by the chairman, along with what has been turned in, increases the gift* to approxi mately $4,000, he added. Chairman Mauney expressed thanks to all area workfers, drive committee heads, and contribu tors to the effort here. Kiwanis Club Honors Fanners Kings Mountain area farmers enjoyed ah entertainment pro gram last Thursday night, as they were guests of the Kings Mountain Kiwanis club's annual Farmer's Night banquet. Dr. W. P. Gerberding, club president, welcomed the guests and Glee A. Bridges served as master of ceremonies. Feature entertainment was provided by Panhandle Pete, the one-man band, who recently ap peared on a nation-wide televis ion show. By use of a homemade contraction including bass drum, cymbals, harp, bells, horns and other devices, the Asheville entertainer made mu sic not too unlike that of Spike Jon^s and his orchestra. He also Interspersed his music with wit ty repartee. ?Prior to the Panhandle Pete performance a group of Negro singers presented a program of spirituals. Among special guests at the meeting were Joe Carver, of - the Soil Conservation service, IX G. Harwood and H. W. Dameron, of the county agent's office, Paul Kiser, Gaston county agent, Dane Rhyne, Gaston PMA chair man, and County Commissioner Hazel Bumgardher. L. Arnold Kiser served as chairman of the committee on arrangements, and others were J. ?, Anthony, Jr., M. A. JEnloe, G. A. Bridges and Lawrence Pa trick. Lot Be-Zoned By City Board The city board of commission ers rezoned the lot at Battle ground avenue and Falls street from residential to commercial designation at its meeting last Thursday night. Request had been made by D. W. Royster, of Shelby, who had stated he expected to erect a mo dern supfer market. No opposition was expressed to the re- zoning. The board also authorized con tract with Charles M. Graves, of Atlanta, tor architectural work on two city swimming pools, it being stipulated that total bids for the two swimming pools not exceed $120,000. Mr. Graves Is to receivte a gross fee of five per cent of the contracts, and, if bids are higher than the maximum figure, Is to submit .revised plans. Fred W. Plonk, recreation com mission chairman, was present for the meeting, along with Jack White, secretary, and both urged conclusion of the agreement with Mr. Graves. . The board also: 1) Approved purchase of a typewriter for the waterplant, and authorized Operators George Moss and Robert Wright to at tend a' wafer operators confer ence at Fayetteville. 2) Appointed Jlm.Lybrand, fire, man, to record ownership chan ges on the djy tax maps from county of fice records. i 3) Amended the city privilege licence ordinance to. prohibit op eration of riding devises within the city, except on express per mission of the board. 4) Authorized purchase at $75 of a used calculator for the tax office. 5) Approved an agreement with Mauntey avenue residents where by the city will Install drainage at 50 cents per foot to alleviate a drainage problem. Residents are to defray the pipe expense. 6) Named streets in thte C. F. Stowe property off N.
