/<(<</!/ ? c Elizabeth Stewart, Editor (" -- A" . . f W Stella Austin GA Group Discussed "Focus Week" Members of the Stella Austin Girl's Auxiliary of First Baptist church met at the church Tues day afternoon for their regular meeting. The meeting was opented with the GA watchword and pled ge of allegiance and the group sang "We've A Story To Tell to the Nations." Melba Andrews offered thte opening prayer and the business session was presided c.er by Brenda Bridges, presldr nt. Mrs. Howard Ware, leader of the group, gavfe the program on "ste wardship" and read a story on "The Book with the Black Cover." The group discussed plans for , "GA Focus Week" at First Bap tist and discussed activities that are to take place at the church next week. Plans were also dis cussed for thte GA Mother-Daugh ter banquet which will climax the Focus Week activities next Fri day night Fifteen members attended the meeting. A social hour was held at the close of thte business ses sion. Mrs. Ware passed refresh ments. Erskine Alumnae Chapter Held Meeting On Monday The Kings Mountain Chapter of the Erskine Alumnae met on Monday evening in the home of Mrs. John Cheshire. Upon arri val of the gufests the hostess, as sisted by Mrs. Claude Hambright and Mrs. E. W. Neal, served a de licious dessert course and drink. - Miss Scoggir the program chairman, presen - ? Mrs. Aubrey Mauney who talked about her re cent trip to Mtexico City. She showed Interesting pictures of the places she visited and displayed many attractive souvenirs. During the business session, Mrs. W. E. Blakely, the treasurer, gave a financial xteport of the year. Mrs. John Gamble, repre sentative at the last Erskine A lumnae Council held in Due West, S. C., gave a report of that meet ing. She announced that the ntew alumnae project for the year Is | the purchasing of a new organ for the college. The meeting was presided over by the president, Mrs. J. L. Mc Gill. MRU. BILLY J. ARRQWOOD Payne - Arrowood Vows Exchanged. Miss Jackie Ann Payne and Billy Jerry Arrowood, both of Kings Mountain, were united in marriage in a simple ceremony in York, S. G. Sunday afternoon, April 18, at 3:15 o'clock. Vows were exchanged in the home of Gettys Nunn, Judge of probate, and only close friends and the two immediate families of the couple attended the cere mony. For her wedding the bride wore a two-piece suit of pale lilac with white accessories and a shouldter corsage of white orchids. Mrs. Arrowood is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack B. Payne of Kings Mountain. She is a junior at Kings Mountain high school. ? The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie L. Arrowood of Kings Mountain, attended Kings Moun tain high school and is employed at Foote Mineral Company. Mr. and Mrs. . Arrowood are making their home on Cleveland avenue. _ . Gastonia District WSCS To Hold Meeting Tuesday The Gastonla District meeting of the Woman's Society of Chris tian Service will be held Tues day, May 11, at 9:30 a. m. at West End Methodist church in Gaston la. Mrs. C. A. Butterworth, past president of the WSCS of Central Methodist church here, made the announcement and said that all Methodist women are being urg ed to attend the district meeting. Featured speaker will be Miss Jane Stentz, who iferved.for three years as a missionary to India and who is now a director of re ligious education at a Mooresville church; PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hughes and two sons, Connie and Eddie, mov ed Saturday Into their new home on route two. Robert W. Wilson of Pasadena, California was a guest of J. E. Herndon and Mrs. Herndon here over the weekend. Mrs. Ivey Price of Ashevllle visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Hughfes Monday. Rev. VV. F. Monroe, of Grayer, was also a guest In the Hughes' home. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Barber and Johnny Barber, Jr., spent Sunday in As>heville and also tou red the Indian Reservation. Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Powters and son, Mickey, will spent the week end in Lumberton as guests in the home of Mr. Powers' parents, Mr. and Mrs, N. K. Powers. Mrs. Florence Hughes Is visit ing this week in the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. C. Martin, and Mir. Martin. ' ? Mrs. R. W. Miller Circle Hostess Monday Mrs. R. W. Miller was hostess to members oi Circle 4 of First Presbyterian church when the cir cle held its regular monthly meeting Monday night. Program for the meeting was presented by Mrs. W. L. Ramseur and Mrs. Paul Mauney, Bible lea der, gave the Bible Study from the Book of Acts. ; Miss Helten Hay, circle chair man, conducted the business ses sion. Twelve members attended the meeting. Junior Woman's Club Held Business Meeting Members of the Junior Wo man's club held their regular monthly meeting Monday night at the Woman's club house. The business meeting was con ducted by Mrs. Denver King, club president. Mrs. W. R. Hudspeth was appointed overall chairman of plans for work for the new year. New officers of both Wo man's clubs will be installed at the June meeting. Mrs. D. R. Mauney, Jr., of Cherryville, district president, will conduct the installation ser vice. Yearly reports and a report from delegates who attended the annual Woman's club convention in Ashevllle last week wlere also heard at Monday night's meet ing. '? 1 _ Ruth Swann Auxiliary Held Meeting Tuesday Regular meeting of the Ruth Swann Girl's Auxiliary of First Baptist church was held Tuesday afternoon at the church. A program on "Missionaries to South America" was presented by Peggy Ware, Janie Trammell, Edith Jane Kincaid, and Diane Roberts. Flowers were made by each GA member. . "Focus Week", which begins Sunday at First Baptist church, was discussed by tb* ?rcup. Plans were made by ine GA members to hold a Mother-Daughter ban quet, next Friday night at 7 o' clock to climax the week activi ties. Mrs. F, E. Powers is leadfer of the group. Mrs. Wilson Crawford Home Arts Club Hostess Members of the Home Arts club met Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Wilson Crawford as hostess at Kings Mountain Country club. Mrs. C. T. Carpenter was pro gram chairman for the meeting and' she present ed Mrs. J. C. Mc< Gill, who gave the program on "India." Mrs. McGill. who is the daughter of missionaries to India spoke on some of the religious customs and Hfe in India and dis played India brass and copper. Mrs. B. D. Ratterree, club pre sident, conducted the business ses sion. Members vstfid to contribute to the Library Fund drive now in ?progress. During the social hour, the hos tess was assisted in serving a sa lad course with strawberry short cake and coffee. Bowls of yellow glads, purple iris, roses, and pan sies were Used in decoration. Presbyterian Circle 5 Held Meeting On Monday Members of Circle 5 of First i Presbyterian church met Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. C. E. Neisler. ' . Mrs. P. D. Patrick gave the Bible Study for the meeting from the Book of Acts and program for th*? meeting was . presented by Mrs. E. A. Harrill, circle program chairman. A short business session was conducted by Mrs. H. N. Moss, circle chairman. During the social hour that fol lowed the meeting, refreshments were served. Six members at tended the meeting. Lt. James E Herndcn, Jr., landed at the Charlotte Airport last Wednesday at noon, flying a jet from Pittsburg and spent a few hours here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hterndon. He had with him Lt.
