Mrs. C. A. Butter-worth, retir ing president, conducted the . in stallation service after special music had been presented by Mrs. Meek Carpenter, Mrs. Delbert Dixon, and Miss Bonnie Mcintosh. American Home Department To Hold Meeting Monday Regular meeting of the Ameri can Home and Education Depart ment of Kings Mountain Wo man's club will be held Monday night at 7:30 at the Woman's club. Frances Hamilton circle of Boyce Memori al 'ARP church for their regular meeting Monday afternoon. Mrs. Phifer, program chair man, was in charge of a program and she was assisted in present ing the program by >Irs. N. F. McGiJl and Mrs. P. G. Ratterree. Miss Freelove Black, circle chairman, conducted the business session. Nine members and two new members, Mrs. Lisa Goforth and Mrs. Laura Watterson, at tended the meeting. Clubettes Organized At Meeting Saturday * Organization of the "Clubettes", was completed at a meeting at Kings Mountain Country cluD Sat urday evening. Forty fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade stu dents, children of Country Club members, attended. Mr. and Mrs. T- L. Kesler and Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Mauney met with the group. Dancing was En joyed and refreshments served. Club admission is fifty cents per_person and members may in vite* a "couple. Spiritual Life Group Held Meeting Monday Regular meeting of the Spirit ual Life group of Central Meth odist church was held Monday night at the church. Miss Mozelle Masters, director of Religious Education at the church, was in charge of a pro gram for the meeting. Topic of her meditation was, "The Name of Jesus." The meeting was held prior to the regular meeting of the Wo man's Missionary Society of the church which met at 8 o'clock. tor in charge of publicity, made the announcement. Arthur ahd j Miss Jean Arthur visited Miss j Shirley Arthur, a senior at Duke J University, during, the weekend, j Banquet Saturday Honored Mothers Intermediate GA's of First Bap tist church honored their mothers Saturday night at a Mother Daughter banquet in the church Fellowship Hall. Green and gold GA colors were used In decoration In the church hall and green and gold flower place cards and programs were used. A flower theme was carried out in the program. Miss Lyvonne Lindsay, presi dent of the group, gave the ad dress of welcomt and Mrs. C. L. Lindsay offered the Invocation. A toast to th^hiothers was given by Carolyn Brown and Mrs. W. F. McGill responded. During the mpal, GA members sang original songs to their mo thers. Ruth Ellen McCurdy read "Parables for Mothers" by Tem ple Bailey and Lyvonne Lindsay expressed gratitude for the group to the mothers. Roses were pin ned on each mother present. The group joined hands and sang as a benediction, "We Thank Thee for Mothers." About thirty-five mothers and daughters attended the banquet. Miss Blenda Huneycutt Is lead er of the GA group. Mrr. J. A. Neisler Garden Club Hostess Members of the Kings Moun tain Garden club held their regu lar meeting last Wednesday af ternoon at the home of Mrs. J. A. Neisler. Mrs. J. E. Herndon Was pro gram chairman for the meeting and she presented a program on "Period Arrangements." Colonial arrangements were brought by Mrs. Herndon. Mrs. George Hou ser. and Mrs. W. L. Mauney. During the business session presided over by Mrs. H. C. May es, president, members discussed the recent flower show present ed by the club, and plans were made for a luncheon to be held next month honoring Team No. I, winners of the highest number of points in arrangements for the year. Teams No. II and No. m of the club will be hostesses to the lun cheon. ONE-DAY SERVICE 'mm Local Musicians Won Music Audition Honors SteVe Kesler, Susan Kesler, Flom Mauney, Marlene Weir, and Deriee Weir, all of Kings Moun tain, were among the winners in the eighth consecutive piano au dition held in Gastonia three days last week at the studio of Mrs. Hildb B. Kreutzer on West Third avenue. The event was sponsored by the National Guild of Piano Tea chers and the American College ) of Musicians. Five year national awards went to Steve and Susan Kesler and Flem Mauney won the third-year award. District ho nors for from four, to six memo rized selections went to Dot ice j and Marlene Weir. Sunday night at 8:00 o'clock the Baccalaureate service was held Rev. C. W. Walker, pastor of David's church, gave the invoca tion, Rev. 'Boyce Huffstetler, pas tor of El Bethel, gave the Scrip ture and prayer, and Rev. J. J. Thornburg of Patterson Grove de lievered the sermon. Therte was a full house. Monday night at 8:00 p. m. the commencement exercises were held. Rachel Wehunt gave thte in vocation, Jaunita Lovelace and Mildred Peterson gav^ the salu tatory, Jacob Dixon introduced the speaker-, which was Robert Morgan, and valedictorian was Peggy Hartman. Seniors graduating this year art: Jeaneile Anthony, Cafolyn Bell, Hazel Bolin, Joan Cranford, Joann Dixon, Evanell Graham, Peggy Hartman, Shirley Ledbet ter, Juanlta Lovelace, Mildred Peterson, Edna Ross, Ollie Jo Ross, Rachel Wehunt, Lloyd Chapman, Jacob Dixon, Hildred Ford, Richard Jarvis, Louis Phil beck, Maynard Ross, Johnny Shook, John Seism. In the reading contests in the grammar grades the medals went to Kay McCarter, Nancy Spear man, and Grace Connor. The grammar grades declamation medals went to Luther Edwards, Michael Queen, and Barry Grfeen. The high school reading medals went to Lois Gamble, Elizabeth Barrett. Boys declamation'medals went to David Whist ine and Bob by Anthony. The bus drivers receiving a wards for safe driving werte John Seism. Richard Jarvis, Johnny Shook, and Jiles Bell. The Frank Oranford award, which Is awarded for leadership, cooperation, and citizenship, went to Mildred Peterson. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Barber had as their Monday dinner guests Mr. Barber's brother. Rev. and Mrs. J. M. Barber, of Jonesville, and his sister, Mrs. Jake Hoylte, of Toluca. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Eaker, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Eaker, and Mrs. Lellian Harmon spent Sunday In the mountains. Mrs. Gus Stroup, Mr. and Mrs. Hulan Stroup and Gay Stroup of Gastonia were Monday visitor* here. The Official Board of El Bethel church met Sunday night at 6:30 p. m. They voted to buy a new lawnmower for the parsonagte and church. They also made plana for "Homecoming Day". June 6th at which time, Rev. C. W.
