Kings Mountain high school's
basftba 11 team dropped the final
game of the 1954 season here
Monday afternoon to Forest City.
Score was 13 to 1 in the seven- j
inning affair.
The game was postponed from
last Friday by rain and was thfe
only meeting of the two schools
on the diamond this year.
The Mountaineers had their
worst day afield in the finale, con
tributing 10 errors, and failed to
hit in the clutches.
Kings Mountain got eight hits.

Loses First Game
The Kings Mountain Pony lea
gue team, now without a sponsor,
lost their first game of the year
Tuesday at Bessemer City to drop
out of a tie for first place in the
American League. - v
Playing with only nine players,
the K,lngs Mountain club lost by
a score of 8-0 as Bobby CBrlon,
Bessemer City ace, limited the lo
cals to four hits. V
Keith Lay ton had a pair of sin
gles, Buddy Connor a triple, and
Bud BuMgardner a single for
Kings Mountain.
A drizzling rain throughout thte
contest hampered Kings Moun
tain's fire-ball righthander, Ran-'
dy Cash, with the winners scor
ing five runs on only two hits.
Lay ton took over in the third and
John McGlnnis came on in the
fourth to finish the game.
The recreatiou department is
now supervising thte club and is
looking for a sponsor for the
team. Any group or firm inter
ested in backing the club is urged

Pony League contest.

Admission to all Pony league
games is free and the public is
urged to support the club.
On Tuesday, the club is sche
duled at Rex in Gastonia. The
Kings Mountain team dropped
out of a first place deadlock with
ftex after suffering the first loss
of the season Bessemer City
on last Tuesday.
The two clubs have not met
this season, the first encounter
going by the boards dtie to rain.

The club also boasts the slugging
est team in the league.

in three gamtes, one game was a
no-hitter; Mo Wright has allowed
4 hits in two games; and Bobby
Smith gave up 3 hits in one game.

department, Park-Grace has bat

win No. 6 and BurMil plastered
Jaycees 14-3. Don Tignor, playing
his third year of Little League
ball, continued his terrific hitting,
getting 2 for three.

Birthday Calendar Project In City

The Junior Chamber of Com
merce voted to sponsor the
friendship Birthday Calendar
project this year at the regular
meeting of the organization held
at Masonic Hall Tuesday night.
The project is similar to the
Community Birthday Calendar
sponsored for the past two years.
Citizens may note birthdays, an
niversaries, etc. on the attractive
calendar as well as organization
al meeting dates and memoriums.
The project was put into the
hands of the projects committee,
headed by Hubert Mitchem.
Ed Seltzfer, who sold the club
the Community Calendar two
years ago, was present to speak
for the new project as a repre
sentative of Rowan Printing Co.,
of Salisbury.
President Wilson Griffin pre
sided and some 35 Jaycetes were
present.
Bill Jonas gave a report on the
state convention in Raleigh last
weekend and it wa^ announced
that the board of directors had
authorized a donation of $25 to
the Butchie Morrison Operation
Fund.
Jack White was elected as the
club's state director after Past
President Paul Walker declined
the position and nominated Mr./
White. "
The group voted to coopterate
with the Shelby club in the pre
sentation of its annual beauty
pageant and Louis Sabettl was
named chairman of the local com
mittee.
After a discussion by Charles
Dixon, Soap Box Derby chair
man, the club authorized prizes
for winners of the Kings Moun
tain warm-up race. '
President Griffin announced
plans by the DAR for a Memorial
Day service at Mountain Rest
cemetery on Sunday, May 30 and
urged members of the organiza
tion to attend.
Robert Smith was a guest of
the club.
Committee rosters for the new
I year were also announced.
The dairy goat is growing in
'popularity in North Carolina,
both with small farmers and
commercial dairy operators.
Soybean production ia the Unit
