Roy Neil Quinn was the vale
dictorian of the class. He won a
Scholarship to Johnson C. Smith
university in Charlotte. He also
was awarded the P-TA scholar
ship. This is the first year the
P-TA has offeied a scholarship. I
Miss Bethel Jean Smith Was'the
salutatorian of the class and she |
was awarde a scholarship to
Shaw university at Raleigh. Miss
Lorraine Adams was awarded a
scholarship to Winston . Salem
Teachers college in Winston-Sa- j
lem. She also was awarded the
Omega I'si Phi Fraternity sciio-'
larship.
The highest average in the e!e
mentary department was award
ed to Pressley Quinn. The second
highest was awarded to Lawyer
Quinn. The highest average in
the high school department was
awarded to Roy Neil Quinn The

Alberta Adams.
The most lady-like" award was
given to Miss Margaret Turner,
and the "most gentleman-like" .a
ward was given to Raymond
Goode. The "most all-round girl"
award was awarded to Miss Lor
raine Adams, and the "best all
round boy" award went to Char
les Lee Mitehem.
Miss Mac Ellen Burris, a form
er graduate, and a member of.the
class of 1947, of Compact high
school gave the school a 15 vol
ume set of Richardson's Topical
encyclopedias. She is now a regis
tered nurse at the Asheboro hos
pital, in Asheboro. The entire
community wishes to express its
appreciation to her for this gift.
The annual Class Day exercise
was held Tuesday at 2 p. m. The
program was given in the form of
a radio broadcast. Alberta Adams
was the announcer. There were
selections by the senior class
quartet and the senior class trio.
The members of the quartet were
Bobby Bell. Roy Quinn. Harold
Roberts, and Charles Mitehem.
The members of the trio were
Eleanor Jackson, Lorraine Adams
and Bethel Smith. Two very good
monologues were rendered by
Joyce McDowell and Bobby Bell.
Cartoons were given along with
the superlatives. The class sang
two songs: "The Class Song", and
"Auld Lang Syne". Near the end
of the program Mr. Adams and
Mr. Pass presented gold basket
