Elizabeth Stewart, Editor PAULA ELAINE BENNETT, Elaine Bennett Notes Birthday Paula Elaine Bennett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Bennett, celebrated her eighth birthday Wednesday, August 29th, and was honored by her parents at a birthday party Saturday after noon at the Bennett home at 312 Cleveland avenue. The three-tier yellow and green birthday cake was the centerpiece for the refreshment table. Guests were served cake, ice cream, and cold drinks after games were di rected. Attending wre Brenda Black, Glenda and Charlie Lynn, Alice Faye Mauney, Kathy Ellison, Myra Mauney, Amara Hamrick, Frances Carpenter, Ruth Ann Sides, Carolyn Heavner, Vicki Fletcher, Phyllis Franklin, Linda Brown, and Linda Watterson. The honorbe is the granddaugh ter of Mr, and Mrs, C. H. Hayes, of Camden, S. C., and the late Mr. and Mrs. T C. Bennett, of Kings Mountain. Partons Hosts At Luncheon Sunday Mr. and Mrs. H. R, Parton hono red Miss Libby Wehunt and Paul McGinnis, Jr., at a luncheon Sun day at the T. L. Trott cottage at Lake Montonia. The wedding of Miss Wehunt, of Cherryville, and Mr. McGinnis, of Kings Mountain, will be an event of September 8th in Cherry ville First Baptist church. Mrs. T. L. Morgan To Speak On Pearsall Plan To Woman's Club Next Friday Night State Senator Robert Morgan, of Shelby, will address members of Kings Mountain Woman’s club next Friday night, September 7, at 7:30 o’clock at the Woman’s club. Joint announcement was made by Mrs. Haywood E. Lynch, vice prtesident, and Mrs. Wilson Craw ford, publicity chairman, who in vited all club members and inte rested citizens of the community to attend. Mr. Morgan will explain the Pearsall Plan and will discuss the forthcoming September 8 election on constitutional amend ments effecting the state school system. This will be the first general meeting of the club. A business session for club members will fol low the address by Senator Mor gan. The American Home Depart ment of the Woman’s club, of which Mrs. Clarence Jolly and Mrs. Paul Nolan are chairman, will be hostess for the meeting. Pre school children will meet in the First Baptist Church Young Peopje \re Holding Youth Activities Week Young people of First Baptist church will gather at the church Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p. m. to go to Camp Rotary for an ovenight retreat. The activity is a feature of Youth Week and youth revival services at First Baptist church The group will return Friday night. A talent show, recreation, boating, swimming, horseshoes, and vollteyball will be available, according to Mrs. W. B. Logan, training union director. Rev. Howard Khight, pastor of the Kershaw, S. C., First Baptist church, has been conducting the week of services on the theme, "To Be Like Jesus.” Program to pics have included, “In My Wor ship,” “Hi My Prayer Life,” “In Doing His Will,” “In My Rtecrea tion,” “In My School Life,” and “In Complete Dedication.” Mr. Knight is a graduate of Mars Hill and Wake Forest col lege and of Southeastern Baptist Seminary, at Wake Fortest. Two Are Ho'stess At Shower Saturday Mrs. Conrad Hughes and Mrs. Fited Kiser honored Mrs. Wili Hughes at a party and shower in the fellowship hall of Dixon Pres byterian church last Saturday evening. The party featured a shower of gifts from the 18 guests to Mrs. Hughes. Mrs. Wayne Wells directed games, and Mrs. Nevette Hughes assisted the hostesses in serving ice cream and cake. Mrs. Haywood Lynch On Radio Program Mrs. Haywood E. Lynch ap peared recently on the Rocky Mount radio program, “Behind the Story—from near and far”— in an interview by Miss Margy Staton, radio reporter. Mrs. Lynch had accompanied her mother to Rocky Mount after her visit in Kings Mountain with the Lynch family. Questioned about Kings Moun tain, Mrs. Lynch also talked with Miss Staton about the Woman’s club and the Doll Festival stag ed here by the Woman’s orga nization. According to Miss Sta ton, Rocky Mount’s club had been very successful in it’s doll show presentation, and Mrs. Lynch in vited Miss Staton to come to Kings Mountain next April to dis cuss with the local club organi zation of a doll festival. Miss Staton talked with Mrs. Lynch about the State conven tion which Mrs. Lynch attended in Durham and of the election of Mrs. Aubrey Mauney to the of fice of state federation president. “Speaking on the air about Kings Mountain and our talented Wo man’s club president, Mrs. Mau ney, was a thrill and quite a distinct honor,” says Mrs. Lynch. She adds, “It was something I knew about and something I was very proud to tell about.” Radio reporter for Station WC EC, Rocky Mount, Miss Staton is the author of two books, “Let’s Talk About You” and “How To Win Your Life’s Companion.” She was formerly associated with the Washington Herald, Washington, D. C., and served as chairman of membership of the Woman’s Press Club of New York during 1948-49. Mrs. Lynch is an active mem ber of Kings Mountain Woman’s club, currently serving as first vice-president. Mrs. Jackson Hostess To Duplicate Club Mrs. Howard Jackson enter tained members of the Duplicate Bridge club at her home Monday afternoon. Mrs. James Castle, of Chicago, 111., former resident who had been visiting in Kings Moun tain, was invited to play with the regular club members. Bridge prizes went to Mrs. Fred Plonk, who received high, and to Mrs. Drace Peeler, who received second-high.
