L . so, this notice will be imiJortant to you. Le.x G. Barkley, social security district manager In Gastonia, N. C., pointed out to day that, if a domestic worker is paid $50 or more in cash wages in a calendar quarter (S-month period ending with March, June, September or December), a so cial security tax report must be filed by the employer for that quarter. He emphasized that on- ly wages paid in cash are re portable. Many domestic workers are un aware that the employers are not filing a proper report of these wages. Barkley pointed out that unless this report is filed with the Internal Revenue Ser\’- iee, domestic workers will not receive social security credit for the w’ork they have done, even though in some instances the tax was withheld from their earn ings. Many tlmcw employers sim ply forget to file the returns. Thus, a domestic worker may lose out in the valuable coverage he or she is counting on for the future. Barkley further stated that baby sitters are also in the cate gory of domestic workers and the same provisions apply to them. In those situations where a baby sitter is paid $50 in any calendar quarter, a proper* re turn noting the name and socia f '^eairity number of the baby sit ter. and the w'agcs paid, must be filed with the Internal Revenue Service within 30 days after the quarttm ends. Mr. Barkley invites all domes tic w orkers or baby sitlens who have questions about the matter or wljo doubt that thev are re- mving the proper credit to call or write the social security office located at 1320 E.
