The two-hour session reqiuircd
a recess for the judge and Solici
tor William White to check the
statutes in the ease against the
[Hughes 1961 model Chevrolet al
legedly used by the defendants
in transporting 48 cans of beer
and five pints of whiskey in war
rants signed July 17. The auto
was ordered sold, according to
law, and both 'Burris and Hugh<-s
were handed down 90 day and 60
day suspended jail sentences
which they appealed. Bond for
Burris was set at $300 and bond
for Hughes was set at $250. The
defendants were informed they
have the right to post bond of
$2500, twice the value of the ear,
which remains in custody of the
police departme-nt.
Violation of liquor laws also
resulted in sentences handed
down to other defendants includ
ing:.

and Franklin P. Childers, 21, of
112 North Oriental avenue, pletl
guilty to violation of prohibition
laws and were given 30 day jail
sentences, suspended on good be
haviour conditions and payment

Michael Lee Walker, 20, of 112
Benfield Drive, pled guilty to
violation of prohibition laws for
beverage purposes and was given
a 30 day suspended sentence.
Fred L. Wright, Negro, was
ordered to pay his wife $195 rep
resenting non-support payments
in arreai^i by August 2Sth or he
would be returned to jail to fin
ish out a sentence handed down
for non-support.
Laverne Thompson, 23, Gas
tonia Negro, was given three
suspended sentences following
violation of motor vehicle laws,
including no operator’s license,
improper registration, and no
liability insurance.
The defendant testified he had
bought a car and “was trying it
out’’ when he was arrested dur
ing a routine “road check.” Po
lice said the car bore a license
plate which the defendant ad
mitted he had retrieved from a
trash can.
Dudley Carroll Huglics, Jr., 19,
of route two, was given a 30-day
suspended sentence, his driver’s
license was revoked, according to
law, and he was ordered to at
tend driver’s training school foi-
four weeks after being found
guilty of speeding 80 m.p.h. in a
35 m.p.h. aone
Roy Ramsey, 30, of 207 Duke
street, was found not guilty of
assault on fo.-nale.
Russell Morris, 33, of 21-t
Walk(>r street, was found guilty
of simple assault and received a
30 day sus[)ended sentence.
Charged in a second warrant
with assault on female, his case
was continued for one week on
request of the prosecuting wit

Horne is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ellie Horne of Scotland
County. He has not only been ac
tive in health activities but has
also carried projects in safety,
electric, entomology, gardening
and crafts.
Last year, he was the recipient
of the $100 Key Award. 'Monday
I night he was tapped into the
j state 4-H Honor Club. This past
i year, Horne has assisted 150 boys
and girls in Scotland County
I with their health projects.

AN ORDINANCE
Whereas, the following Appropriation Budget has been prepared
and submitted to the Mayor and Board of Commissioners for the City
of Kings Mountain and has been studied by each of them and
Whereas, the law requires that a budget be adopted by the govern
ing body of the City of Kings Mountain not later than the 28th day or
July:
Now, therefore, be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners foi
the City of Kings Mountain pursuant to a special meeting of the Board
of Commissioners held in the City Hall.
SECTION I
That there is hereby set aside and appropriated from current reve
nues and to be received during the fiscal year beginning July 1,
and ending June 30, 1966, for the maintenance and operation of the
general government of the City of Kings Mountain and its various de-
pariments and for its payments of its bonded indebtedness and interest
thereon, the following amounts of money and the payments of said sums
and hereby authorized for the items here set out:

SECTION IV
The Tax Collector for the City of Kings Mountain is hereby author
ized, empowered and directed to proceed to collect taxes levied upon all
real and personal property within the limits of the City of Kings Moun
tain based upon the foregoing rates, provided that on all taxes paid in
advance and discount be allowed^and that on all taxes upon which cost
interest or penalties accrue, according to law the same shall be added
and collected.
SECTION V
The City Treasurer is hereby authorized, empowered and directed
to apportion the said funds coming into his hands from taxes collected
for the fiscal year 1965-66, according to the rate and classification fixed
in Section III.
SECTION VI
That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are
hereby repealed.
