Country Club Luau; Lohrs To Europe; Sally McGill In Beauty Show Sally Mi.Sill, daughter of vir. and Mrs. Earl McGill of Slacksburg, S.C. and grand daughter of Mrs. T. P. Mc Gill of Kings Mountain, was first runner-up to Miss Cherokee County in the re lent beauty pageant held in Fullerton Auditorium on the campus of Limestone college. The crown went to Miss Babs McDowell of Gaffney. Miss McGill played a pi- ano concerto as an exhibi- tion of her talent. She was also presented a trophy for l^iing the most photogenic llik; ^ the group of 12 contestants. A 1965 graduate of Blacksburg high school, Miss Mc Gill has just been notified she is recipient of a music schol arship to Winthrop college tor the coming year. Miss Mc Gill competed with 2 I other students for the scholarship, one of four given and the only one given to a piano student. * ♦ ♦ ♦ Comings And Goings Mrs. Carrie Pryor has returned from a visit with her niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Morgan, in Manassas, Va. and her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Guin, in Alexandria. She flew to Charlotte Sunday from Washington, D. C. where she was met by her son, Bobby Guin, who accompanied her home. The C. E. Morgans had visited here last week and Mrs. Pryor returned home with them. * * * * Mrs. Leonard G. Fulford and children are here from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. for a visit with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. L. P. Baker. Mrs. Fulford is the former Peggy Baker. ★ ♦ * ♦ Mr. and Mrs. Bon Moomaw returned Thursday after spending a week at their new home in Tilghmans Estates af Ocean Drive Beach. They had as their quests Mr. Moomaw's family from Roanoke, Richmond and Culpeper, Va. Ben Moomaw IV is spending the summer there. ♦ ♦ ♦ * • Mrs. W. B. Logan, Mrs. Joe FTord and children, Lisa d Larry, returned Monday to Myrtle Beach, S. C. where Mrs. Logan is spending the summer. Mrs. Logan came home for the Sunday wedding of Edith Jane Kincaid and Jerry Adams. Martha FHerndon, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Herndon of Grover and a rising senioir at Kings Moun tain high school, has com pleted her duties as assist ant recreation director in the summer recreation pro- gram in Grover. The program was under sponsorship of the Grover Woman's club and Grover Lions club. Active in Grover's First Baptist church Miss Hern don is president of Future Homemakers at KMHS, she is also a member of the Na tional Honor Society, is vice president of Future Teachers, and is vice-president of the Cleveland County 4-H Council. She is treasurer of the Grover community club. The summer program closed Friday and those partici pating took a trip to the Charlotte Children's Nature Mu seum. Miss Jaquitha Rountree, director. Miss Herndon, Mrs. Reggie Wood and Mrs. Jackie Rountree accompanied the young folk. Mr. Haden is minister of Trinity Episco pal church. * * ♦ ♦ Mr. and Mrs. Ben Moomaw and Frank Pridemore left Monday on a business trip to Richmond, Va. Mr. Moomaw is superintendent and Mr. Pridemore is historian of Kings Mountain Military Park. * » * * Mrs. Paul Whitley and sons, Wayne and Ricky, are in Taylorsville visiting Mrs. Whitley's brother, Richard White and family. ’ * * * * Two daughters of Dr. and Mrs. John C. McGill are away on camping trips. Mrs. McGill, son John Knox and small daughter Eliza beth, accompanied Meredith McGill to Camp Bonclarken at Hendersonville Sunday where Meredith will be at the ARP church camp for a week# > Alan Tate, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Tate, celebrated his birth day Saturday at a gala Mic key Mouse party at the home of his grandmother, Mrs. Lawrence Logan. Mrs. B. D. Herndon assisted her sister in entertaining. The birthday cake was topped with china figurines of Mickey Mouse, Pluto and Goofy. Cake was served with fruit punch and ice cream at refreshment time. Favors were balloons and party honors and noisemak- ers. Those attending included Alan's great-aunt, Mrs. Percy Dilling: his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Lohr, Jr. are visiting his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Law rence Lohr this week. Sunday, August 8th, they sail from New York for a six weeks visit to Europe. While in Copenhagen, Denmark, Dr. Lohr will speak at an International Physics and Chemistry meeting. When Dr. and Mrs. Lohr return to the United States, they will move to Dearborn Michigan, where Mr. Lohr will be doing chemistry re search for the Ford Scien tific Laboratories. * * * * tonia. Mr. Weir joined his family Tuesday and they will remain here until after the McGill Family Reunion to be held Sunday at Bethel Church Arbor. Junior Woman's Clubbers conducted a calendar can vass Monday night as part of their annual fund-raising pro ject to sell birthday calendars and anniversary listings. They gathered after the canvass for homemade peach ice cream and cookies at the Woman's club.
