Neal attended a three-day state conven- tron of Delta Kappa Gamma International Friday through Sunday at Sir Walter Hotel in Raleigh. Mrs. O. Max Gardner, Sr. of Shelby was recognized as an honorary member of the society during the con vention. A memorial service at Sunday's closing session paid tribute to deceased .rrlembers, including Dr. Lau ra Plonk of Asheville, Kipgs Mountain native. Dr. Eugenia Hunter of the University of North Caro- ' lina at Greensboro, state president of DKG, presided. A former teacher, Mrs Neal is a member of the li brary staff of Jacob S. Mau- ney Memorial Library. " * + * * ° About This N' That A surprise party Sunday at the home of Rev. and Mrs. C. C. Parker here honored Mr. and Mrs. John Paul Parker of Lincointon on their 25th wedding anniversary. John Paul Parker is son of the host couple. Dinner was served to family members, including Mrs Annibelle Blaylock, mother of Mrs. John Paul Parker, and children of the honor guests, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Parker and son, Jamie, and Rev. and Mrs. Robert Parker and sons, Bobby and Joey, all of Lincointon. Two cakes provided central decoration for the buffet table. A three-tier anniversary cake was topped with bride and bridegroom figurine and a blue and white cake was topped with a doll in a blue dress. Bridal wreath and spring flowers were used in an arrangement at the center of the fable. , ... I Mr. and Mrs. Charles Parker, brother and sister-in-law of the guests-of-honor, also attended with family members. Clyde Blaylock, father of Mrs. John Paul Parker, was un able to attend because of illness. Mr. Parker is recuperating from surgery. Sigma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa met at the home of Mrs. A. E. Yarbro Thursday evening. President Minnie Ann Forney presided. Miss Jacque line Blanton presented Mrs. Martin Harmon, piano teacher, and Miss Linda Walker, Queens college student, who pre sented a musical program. During the social hour Mrs. Annie Lee Driver and Miss Helen Logan, hostesses, served homemade cake with salted nuts, cheese puffs, mints and strawberry punch. ♦ ' ♦ ♦ 1(1 ~ Miss Carolyn Heavner and her ASTC roommates, Lyndall Wood of Union Grove and Rebecca Wright of Dal las..spent the weekend vyith_Miss Fjeavner's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Plato Heavner. ' t * * * Donald Lee Parker, III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lee Parker, Jr. of Wichita Falls, Texas, celebrated his second birthday Monday, May 2. A small family birthday party was held at the home of young Parker's maternal -grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Henry, in Wichita Falls. A decorated birthday cake was served with other party refreshments. Young Parker is grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Donald L. Parker of Kings Mountain. The Parkers reside in Wi chita Falls at 2103 Jones Thirty-gix local golfers played a Scotch Foursoime Sunday aft ernoon at Kings Mountain Coun try Club golf course. C., where they visited Sgt. and Mrs. Ray Carroll and sons, Edwin and Timmy. Mrs. Carroll is sister of the Farrises. They attended morning church services at Hickory Road Baptist church and visited the Air Force Base during the afternoon. Since that time the gala event is anticipated by young ladies of high school graduating age throughout West ern North Carolina as the high light of a glamorous social- sea son. Invitations are issued each year to a select group of young women who are members of senior classes in Cleveland and surrounding counties. Date of the S'' H^ISS PLONK Ball is scheduled each year on the weekend following one of the most significant weeks in their lives in which they have been awarded higlj school diplomas. Shedding their caps and gowns for party,, dresses and social whirls, the young debs and their escorts begin a round of events prior to the Ball which leads to the formal presentation on Sat urday night, June 11. Each* deb wears a long>-wUM formal gown, long white gloves and carries a tied with red satin bows and streamers.
