Women Held Birthday Party Blalocks Feted On Anniversary Annual Birthday Party of the Women of Dixon Presbyterian church was held Saturday. A covered dish supper was served in the fellowship hall. Cen tering the main table was a yel low and white birthday cake decorated by Mrs. Tom Humph ries. The cake was flanked by yellow tapers. An arrangerent of yellow roses was also used on the table. ^ The invocation was offered by Rev. Claude Hinson of Dallas, brother-in-law of Mrs. Humph ries. Mr. and Mrs. Hinson were present as visitors, along with Luther Cansler. Mr. Cansler showed films de tailing the 1966 Birthday Project as program highlight. This year’s offering will go to poverty-strick en families in Kentucky. Miss Gerry Humphries opened the program by reading scripture and giving a devotional. She also closed the program with prayer. Mr. and Mrs. George Blalock celebrated their silver wedding anniversary last Sunday after noon, May 1, at open house from 2 until 5 p.m. at their home on I North Goforth street. I Hosts for the affair attended j by 150 friends from Kings Moun-1 tain and surrounding towns were i Mr. and Mrs. Ray Francis of j Shelby. Mrs. Francis is niece of the Blalocks. A color note of pink and white was combined with silver throughout the Blalock home. The refreshment table, highlight of decoration, was overlaid with a floor-length cloth -of embroid ered organza and lace caught up with bouquets of valley lilies and .rraline and centered by a tliree- tier 25th anniversary cake in pink and white. Punch was serv ed from a silver service at one end of the table, and at the other end of the table was a silver can delabrum of white tapers and pink and white flowers The hosts, at the front door to welcome arriving callers, present ed them to the guests-of-honor who received informally in the living room. Mrs. Blalock, the former Louise Falls, wore a blue linen and lace-trimmed dress with corsage of gladmellias, gift of the hosts. Eight FHA’ers modeled sum merwear ranging froi.n angelskin skirt and sweater sets to mix-n- match outfits for beach, home and travel in shorts, tops and skirts in buttercup yellow, prints, heatherspun, orange skimmers, burgundy Poor Boy tops and white slacks featuring stovepipe legs. The skirts were longer and the dresses were of washable cotton featuring belted or blous-on-type waistlines with easy skirts. Crowd favorites were several dresses by French designers in a price range of $25-$30. Kathy Plonk modeled a navy and yellow linen sleeveless cocktail dress which had a tiered - look. Nancy Rayfield’s white linen skimmer was accented at the hemline by bold green, white and black stripes. .Sandy Rayfield’s white linen A-Iine featured a rolled collar of green and two mws of green trimming at the he.nline. Jane Morris modeled a tvv'o-tone yellow and orchid linen which was a sunback drefe’s with spa- : ghetti straps topped by a weskit- ! effect bolero. Hayes w«it to Macon, \ Ga. Monday to attend funeral [ rites for Miss Cornwell’s brother-1 in-law, O. E. Hawkins, who died Sunday morning. Mr. Hawkins was husband of the former Miss Lucille Cornwell of Kings Mountain, daughter of A. H CornweU. He is survived by his wife and daughter and a number of Kings Mountain relatives, in addition to his father-in-law and mother-in- law. Eight new members joined the Dixon Community 4-H club at Tuesday’s regular '.meeting at Dixon Presbyterian church. They are Susan Hutchins, Lin da Costner, Charless Costner, Johnny Costner, Neil Hutchins, Randy and Ricky Childers and Debra Johnson. Program for thg evening was by Mrs. Osc^r Greene who discussed 4-H Sunday to be held this‘month. Services will be held by th* local group at Dixon Pres byterian and Midview Baptist churches. The' group held a luncheon meeting at Hager’s Restaurant in Shelby and heard a program, “Keys For Useful Living” which pointed to happiness and fellow ship. To serve with Mrs. Brown will be Mrs. James Sides, program chairman; Mrs. Raymond Need ham, yearbook chairman; and Mrs. Bill Shytle, reporter. The Lewises are on leave from Maxwell Air Force Base at Montgomery, Alabama. Miss Louzelle Smith of Atlanta, Ga. was weekend guest of her narents, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Smith. Both the bride-elect and pros pective bridegroom are graduates of Kings Mountain high school and have completed requirements for degrees from Appalachian State Teacher’s college, Boone, on May 27th. Miss Roberts, an ele mentary education major, is a mo.T.ber of te ASTC Vernician Society, on the yearbook .staff of “The Rhododendron”, and served as House President. Mr. Houston, now doing his post graduate work for a mas ter’s in physical education, is a member of the Men's "A” club and served as an athletic trainer.
