-It' laSaOLUTlON OF THE cnv COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA THAT WHEREAS, Sadie Cot ton Mills Company has hereto fore filed a Petition with The City Council of the City of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, re- questin^g that such portions oif Eaat Gold Street, Kiser Street and -Sadie Loop lying within the bounds of the property outlined yill green upon the map attached to the Petition, be closed; and, WHEREAS, it appears from said Petition and froim other evi dence that the Petitioner is the owner of all the lands adjoining the portions of said streets and that no other individual or cor poration owns any portion of said adjoining lands; and that said atreets are not under the control and suoervision of the State Highway Commission; and, WHEREAS, pursuant to Sec- tloi;i 153-9 (17) of the General Statutes of North Carolina, no tice of the consideration of the Petition by the Council was pub lished once a week for four (4) weeks in The Kings Mountain Herald, a newspaper published weekly in Cleveland County, North Carolina; and, WHEREAS, pursuant to said notice duly given, a public meet ing of the Chty Council of the City of‘Kings Mountain, North Carolina, was held on June 14, 1966, at the Kings Mountain City Hall to consider the request for the closing of portion of said streets, at which time no person or corporation appeared in op position thereto; and, WHEREAS, it appears to the satisfaction of the Council that the closing of the portions of said streets as set forth in the Petition and in the notice as a- foresaid is not contrary to the public interest and that no in dividual, firm, or corporation DEEDS fay Jan CSirlstensen. Usiny the table legs, plus scraps of plywood, a hammer and a saw, she created an attractive corner what-not, similar to .one she had had custom-made. Mrs. Payne antiqued her crea tion and the result was an at- traijtive plant or what-not shelf for her paneled family room. The object cost less than fifty cents to build, the homemaker figures. New Hanover coun ty homemakers are striving for a total of 600 families to can blue ribbon products by the end of this year. ‘They know they will reach the mark,” Verna Belle Lowery, home economics extension agent, states. “The in terest in canning fruits and vegetables, pickling, and making ! jams cmd jellies has never been higher.” Many families are taking ad- vantage of local products by go ing into the fields when they are open to the public and picking berries and gathering vegeta bles. Already, Miss Lowery’s office has received 604 requests for help in canning foods. OPERATION DAY CAMP Plans are being made for a Day Camp Prorgam for cultural ly deprived children in Lincoln County, extension home eco nomics agents report. The pro ject will be sponsored jointly by New interest in 4-H Club work has grown out of the observance of 4-H Sunday, Carolyn B. Heavner, assistant home eco- no.Tiics extension agent, Burke County, states. The H^rtland Road, Pax Hill, and Chesterfield 4H Clubs pre sented a 4-H Sunday service in a community where there was no club. At the end of the sei-vice, com munity members in the congre gation expressed an interest in starting a club for youth in their community. “It would be good training for the youth in our church,” they said. OLD-FASHIONED BONNET During the cold winter months, Mrs. Jasper Breeze, Hurdle Mills, Rt. 1 developed a hobby- making a modern version of the old-fashioned bonnet. According to Mrs. Bonnie B. Davis, home economics extension agent, Orange County, Mrs. Breeze made a bonnet for her self, with a gardening dress to match. The hobby has turned out to be a money making enter prise that brings her satisfac tion and added income. Mrs. Breeze has sold more than $100 worth of bonnets al ready. She says, “I always car ry a half dozen in my car when I go to meetings or on trips. Many people adn^ire them and I am able to sell thami one right on the spot.” ON DEAN'S LIST Oscar Neil McCarter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar McCarter of Kings Mountain, has earned a place on the second semester Dean’s List at Erskine College.
