By JOE CORNWELL Rocky Goforth pitched a two hit ball game through five innings Tuesday, as the Kings Mountain Mountaineer baseball team collected their third straight win of the sea son. The Mountaineers defeated the Chase Trojans in a non-conference clash, 9-4. Goforth allowed both hits in the first inning as Chase jumped to a throe to nothing lead. Kings Mountain went scoreless in the first with catcher Paul Gaffney collecting the only Mountie hit. Goforth started the game off Ronnie Culbertson defeated in a wild fashion but settled Clyde Culbertson. 3-1 in the Mix- down in the .second inning to rap ed Bowling League action this fnre the win. GOLF Seniors Stan Yarbro and Pal Cheshire will be loading the linksmen charge this season. Head Coach Don Parker, will be counting on these two boys. Tommy Bridges and Lauren Whistnant have the fourth and fiftn starling ^ts with Aian Hambright holding doun sixth. j BASEBALL Coach Bob Hussey will be counting on the pitching | performance of Rocky Goforth and Darrell Whetstine this! season. Gene Putnam at shortstop, and Wayne Mullinax at thirci. Charles Barnes will man the right field position with Rick Finger and Bruce Jones in the center ( and left field positions. Paul Gaffney will be catching. Gaffney is the only returning all-conference selection. But several all-conference prospects have been noted this| year in Mike Smith and Rocky Goforth. Gene Putnam may be considered to be in this category. The Mountaint^ers won their fir.st contest o\er Besse mer City 10-3. Surprising to note, the K.M. lads had only two days practice under their bolts, but still came out on top. They are the current defending champs of the SWC. CENTRAL JUNIOR HIGH BASEBALL Coaches Porter Griggs and Barry Gibson are looking forward to a good season. This season will be Gibson’s first as a coach. He played college hall at Lenoir Rhyne in Hickory and was one of their leading pitchei's. Head Coach Griggs will be depending on the perform ance of David Bolin on the mound and Pete Hicks ai the plate. Both Hicks and Bolin led'Central over Arlington this past week. Pete led at the plate with a o for 5 performance.
