Post 155 Took
3-4 Mark Into
Gastonia Tilt
Kings Mountain’s Juniors host
Area Four's only undefeated
team, 'Belmont, Saturday night at
City Stadium. -
Belmont Post 144’s lads are un-:
defeated with a 5-0 record while
KM carried a 3-4 mark into last
night’s home game against Gas
tonia.
Rocky Goforth, the ace of the
Post 155 staff with a 2-1 record,
was scheduled to hurl a^^ainst
Gastonia last night and could al
so get the starting call against;
Belmont Saturday.
Friday night, Coach Bo Goforth
takes his charges to Shelby and
righthander Darrell Whetstine
will probably toe the pitching
rubber. Whetstine has a 0-1 roc*
ord, having dropped a 7-5 deci
sion to Morganton last Thursday
night.
Post 155 split four games Iasi
week, whipping Bessemer City
and Hickory while losing to Morx
ganton and Cherryville. The K^C
lads also dropped a 17*4 decision
to Forest City Monday night.
Next Monday, Post 155 is idle.
The Mounties were originally
scheduled 10 play Henrietta on
that date, but Henrietta is no
longer in the league. Next Wed
nesday, post 155 is host to Granite
Falls and Goforth will have
enou h rest to go again.
.Saturday’s home oponent. Bel
mont, has plaved only two close
games thus far. They trimmed
Cherryville and its ace, Alan
Lindsay, 2-0 in the season opener
and nipped Mill .Springs, 2-1.
The big man for Belmont thus
far has been righthand oitcher
Mack Clawson who is 3-0. But,
Clawson is scheduled to pitch a-
gainst Gastonia Friday, so th«
, Mounties will probably face Rick
Cherry.
i Clierry. who was bothered
! thioughout the high school seat
I son with arm trouble, is now ful*
ly recovered and the strong right*
hander pitched six stout innings
against Mill Springs last week
before giving way to Clawson.
Fridays road onponent, Shelbv;
started slowly, losrtng its first
four games, but the Clevelanders
have come on strong to win two
straight, including a 4-0 victory
over Cherr.wille and Lindsay.
Rpjht'hander Don Bright was
the winning pitcher over Cherry-
ville an dthe Mounties could face
him Fridav.
Next Wednesday’s opponent.
Granite Falls, whipped Post 155
7-2 in the season opener.
luniors At Belmont
Carl Wilson, athletic oflicer
of Post 155, said Saturday’s
game will be ployed at Belmont,
due to a conflict.
