I) Mrs. Craig To Speak To Legion Auxiliary Mrs. Tim Craig, of Charlotte, president of the North Carolina De partment of the Ameri can Legion Auxiliary, will bo guest speaker at Thursday night's meeting of Otis D. Green Post 155 Auxiliary. Mrs. Bessie D. Beam will be hostess at 7:30 p.m. at her home on East King street. The "Americanism" topic will be featured in the program. Mrs. Craig is in Washington, D. BRIDE-ELECT HONORED 9 Miss Nancy Rayfield, bride-elect of Michael Hoyle, was honored Friday night at a drop-in bridal shower attended by 30 guests held in the fellowship hall of David Baptist church. Hostesses, all aunts of the bride-elect, were Mrs. Jo^e Bolin, Mrs. Patsy Chapman, Mrs. Grace Craw ford and Mrs. Marlene Biggers. A color note of red and white was featured in decorative details and refreshments of punch, cake and mints. Miss Rayfield was presented a white shoulder corsage which she pinned to the shoulder of her green linen party dress. Theresa Delores Ruppe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oren Ruppe, will cele brate her first birthday Thursday, February 5th. A family party will be held at the Ruppe home at 403 Hill street. Theresa's decorated birthday cake will be cut and served with party re freshments. Young Miss Ruppe is granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ruppe of Kings Mountain and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Mace of Gaffney, South Caro- BRIDGE BENEFIT SET Area women will be invited to play bridge and canasta for benefit of the Kings Mountain Heart Fund Drive ifiebruary 18th at Kings Mountain Country Club from 10 a.m. until I 2:30. Jesse Eugene Heath, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Edward Heath, Jr. of Waco road, celebrated his second birthday Jan uary 29th. Dean, Mike and John Heath, and his niece, two-year-old Donna Kay Heath, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Heath. Mrs. Plonk Hostess Thursday 1 o Book Club On January 9, Mrs. R. S. Pionk was hostess to the mem bers of the Thursday Afternoon Book clul) at her houne in Besse mer City. Mrs. T. G. Padgett, who had the program for the afternoon, used as her subject “'Cherries Are Royal." She brought out that the cherry as a court favorite reachte back to Tudor times. Treating people with cherries was a means of bestowing honor on them. During the reign of Elizabeth I, cherry farts appeared on the menus of the court, and preserved clierries became a favorite gift she stated. Cherry fairs were held and poems were written about this luscious fruit. Cherry orchards b<H:ame places where royal lovers romanced. At the close of the program Mrs. Plonk presided over a short business session. During the social period the hostess served a salad course with Russian tea and a dessert. Mrs, Richard Nixon’s recipe for chicken salad follows: 1 cup diced cooked chicken 1 cup diced celery Vz cup hedved, seeded grapes 1/3 cup roasted almonds, diced 1/3 cup mayonnaise 1 teaspoon lemon juice Vz teaspoon grated onion Soil to taste Salad greens Combine chicken, celery, grapes and almonds. Blend mayonnaise, lemon juice, onion and salt, and mix lightl wj'ith chicken mixture. Serve on crisp salad greens. Makes four servings. Dimes Drive $50 Donation From Junior Club The Junior Woman’s club vot ed a $50 contribution to the Kings Mountain March of Dimes campaign against birth defects Monday night. TTie club is leading the drive in Kings Mountain and No. 4 township with Mrs. Cal Fisher, club president, as chairman. -Mrs. Fisher, reporting on pro gress of the campaign, said Scouts from the area are con ducting door-to-door solicitations vnder the leadership of Scout leaders.
