Gold Star Lunchaon Set Sunday At Noon Libby Trott, Bride-Elect Is Honored Cleveland County Gold Star Mothers, Fathers, Wives and bisters will be guests of the two American L.egion auxiliaries at the annual Gold Star Mothers luncheon bunday at noon at Hotel Charles dining room. Otis D. Green Post 155 Auxiliary at Kings Moun tain and Warren F. Hoyle Post 82 ot Shelby are spon soring the luncheon. Kings Mountain area guests and auxiliary members should make reservations with Mrs. Orangrel Jolly, 739-2140. Mrs. Jolly and Mrs. Leonard Gamble are lo cal co-chairmen of the event. > , « * * ♦ ORGANIST GUILD MEETING Mrs. J. N. McClure led members in sightreading of new anthems at the October meeting ot the Gas tonia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Members met at Holy Communion Lutheran church in Dallas where Rev. John, Merck, pastor, gave them a tour of the new sanctuary, including the church nave and new carved altar. The rebuilt Wicks organ was played by Mrs. William Wilson. A student at Devon shire Elementary school in Charlotte, Todd's artwork was based on thankfulness, the spirit of giving thanks on the Thanksgiving holiday. There were awards for three to five year olds and for nine to 12 year olds and a large number of children entered the competition which was judged by a com mercial art director, a grade school art teacher and a professor from the Maryland Institute, College of Art. Sharon Cash, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth E. Cash, celebrated her third birthday Thursday. November 2nd. November Tela is granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Yates Young of Kings Mountain. Tela was honored at a family dinner at her home. Her birthday cake was a chocolate cake topped 1 with a clown. (Misa (Libby Trott, whose wed ding to Jerry Blanton takes place Saturday, was honored Friday evening at a dinner party at Holiday Inn, Gastonia. Entertaining together were ‘Miss Frances Goforth of New York City, Mrs. William Goforth and Mrs. Eugene Goforth, both of Kings Mountain, and Mrs. Mil dred Goforth Fulton and Mrs. Joe Palmer, iboth of Gastonia. Covers were laid for 16 guests at tables decorated in the wed ding colors of yellow and gold. Punch was served as guests ar rived and a lour-course meal was served. The bride-to-be wore a navy and white dress and a white shoulder bouquet, gift of the hos tesses. She also received gifts in her silver, china and crystal pat terns. Three Kings Mountain Students Are Student-Teaching This Fall Gerry Vaillancourt, Susan Slate and Sherry Bell of Kings Moun tain are three of seventy-one Gardner-Webb colege education majors beginning eight weeks oi student teaching in thirty area schools. Mr. Vaillancourt, the son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Vaillancourt of Route 2, Bethlehem, w.ll be con ducting classes at Crest high school in Boiling Springs. Miss Slate, the daughter of Jasper E. Slate, will be conduct ing classes at Cherri>’vile Senior high schoo in Cherryvile. Miss Bell, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul D. ISell of Route 3, K ngs Mountain, will be conduct ing classes at Lincoln Junior high school in Lincolnton. During this period they will observe the regular teacher and later will take over the clas/oom duties under the supervision of the supervising teacher. Dr. R. E. Carothers, chairman of the department of education and library science at Gardner- Webb praised the area schools for their cooperation. He said, "The teachers and administrators in the various schools have been very cooperative in helping set up our program and they have been more than willing to assist our student teachers." The prospective bridegroom is a graduate of Reynolds high school of Winston-Salem and has completed an 18-month tour of duty with the United States army. He is now serving in the U. S. Navy aboard the U. S. S. Canopus in Holy Loch, Scotland. He is grandson of Mrs. Ellen Petrosino of Kings Mountain and the late Andrew Petrosino, The wedding will be an event of December 24th in First Wes leyan church. Knitting Class Is Scheduled Two advanced knitting courses, sponsored by Cleveland Tech and instructed by Janice Boyles, will begin next week. The first class will begin Tues day, November 7th from 7-9 p.m. at the Shelby Parks Conference room, and will run each Tuesday through December 5th. Beginning on Wednesday, Nov ember Sth, from 9:3011:30 a.m., the second class wdll be taught at the Huxley Teen Center. This cour- 2 is scheduled to meet each Wednesday morning through Dec ember 6th. Overlaid with white over yel low, the bride’s table was high light of decoration and was dec orated with a green centerpiece holding yellow flowers. Yellow and white cake squares were ser ved from silver appointments and green punch was served with party pick-ups. C., has ;3€en elected to the board of directors of the United Church Board for World Ministries, overseas missionary arm of thn two - million - members United- Church of Christ. Mrs. McDoweM’s election was announced at the 163rd annual meeting of the United Church board, held Oct. 22-25 in Colum bus, Ohio. Th'' 225-membor board includes clergy ani lay men and women from all over the country an i abroad. Tt is rrsponsibe for the work of .'^00 missionaries in 30 countr es. Through such or- ganb'atoins as the World Council of Churrhos. All-Africa Confor- ence of Churrhes and the World Association for Christian Com munication, it carries on work in another 30 countries. Founded in I^'IO, the board was the first agency t o send missionaries abroad from the United States. Mrs. McDowell has been a member of the United Church Board for World Ministries since 1969. From 1947 until 1959 she served with her husband, Rev. Di’. Henry C. McDowell, as an educational missionary in Ahi- igola. The McDowells have recent ly returned ,3 North Carolina, their home state, from Miami, For da, where Dr. McDowell was minister of the Open Door church. The McDowells are members of the First Congregational church, Greonsbor''. Mrs. McDowell also participates in the National Asso ciation of College Women, the Young Women’s Christian Asso ciation and Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
