Jones said the team would hold two-a-day practices whenever possible. 1110 Mountaineers have several players returning from last year's 4-6-1 club, but the veteran KMHS meiKor says the team still will have several key poaltlotM to fill. "All positions are wide open," he says. "We lost some good ballplayers, we have seme good ones returning, and we hops all of the young boys that helped the Junior high sdn the conference cham pionship last year will come out. "1 feel like we have enough players back to form a good nucleus,” Jones continued. "But we still need some help. We lost most of our ends and defensive backs, and we won't have too much depth at ruimlng back. "We're real optimistic,” he continued. "Five or six of our returning players are some of the best plajfors we've had since I've been here. If we got senM of the young boys out sve can have a good foot- baU team." Although It's much loo early to make predictions, Jones says this year's ckib could be the beet KMHS has Beldod since he took over as head coach In 1971. "We can start nine players that started on defense last year,” he said. "Our defense showed a lot of In^rovement toward the end of the year. It wasn't too good at first. We couldn't keep anybody from scoring. "Depth has always been a problem for us," he went on. "This year, we're going to try to play as many boys as we can. But we'll still have to have some go both ways. "One thing that's working In our favor Is that we'll have more time to get ready," he said. "We're starting our season a week later and we're dividing the coaches up whore every boy will get a lot of work and individual coaching." Jones, has assigned new coach Dan Brooks, a former Western Carolina assistant, the offmalve line (TuraToPagetA) ' KM Softballers Florida-Bound Kings Mountain's 0-10 year old boys softball team will be representing North Carolina in the national tournament beginning a week from today at Satellite Beach, Fla.
