Broyhill announced today that the Committee on Committees of the House Republican Conference has recommended that the veteran congressman from Lenoir remain on the House Budget Committee and the Interstate and Foreign Commerce Committees during the 9eth Congress. Broyhill who Is begin ning his 8th term In the House of Representatives' will be the 2nd ranking Republican on both the Budget and Commerce Committees. Broyhill stands iBth In seniority among all House Republicans. The budget committees In both the House and Senate have become in- creasln^y powerful since their creation roughly 2 years ago. The House Budget Committee Is expected to be the major Congressional bat tleground on the question of the government’s spending and revenue levels. The Influential In terstate and Foreign Commerce Committee has perhaps the broadest legislative Jurisdiction In the House of Represen tatives. Some of the major legislative Issues expected to come before the Com merce Committee this Congress Include National Health Insurance, Dregulatlon of Natural Gas, No-fault Automobile Insurance and Major Revision of the Com prehensive Com munications Act.
