Highlight of the ban quet will be presenta tion of several trophies and plaques to all senior members of the team. Members of the KMHS championship team of 1964 will be on hand to present the awards. Trophies to be given Include the Mirror- Herald Player of the Year Award, the FYed Plonk Blocking Trophy, the Or. George Plonk Most Valuable Player Award, the John Gam ble Scholastic Award, the Most Improved Player Trophy and the Mountaineer Award. The 1976 Moun taineers posted an 8-2 overall record, the school’s best mark since '64. They tied South Point for third place In the Southwestern Conference standings. Boys bi First Victory, Girls Pull Back To .500 Klnga Mountain High's basketballers took a twlnblll from Chase Friday night on the Trojans’ home court, the glris winning 68- 88 and the boys copping their first victory, 66-89. The two KMHS clubs were scheduled to host Bessemer City in a South- western Conference twlnblll last night but the results were not available at the Mirror-Herald’s press deadline. The game was originally scheduled for tonight but was changed because of the Lions Club football bangust. HmKHHS gills 1«1 aU the way In the opener as they evened their early- season record at 2-2. Chase fell to 0-4 and is the only girls team in the league that Is still winless. Coach Kathy Brooks’ ladies jumped out to a 18-9 first quarter lead, then broke the game open In the second quarter when they outscored the Chase girls 28-12 to take a 86-21 half time lead. Susan Mltchem con tinued her hot scoring pace with 27 points, and sophomore Priscilla Rlckenbacker had her best game of the year, adding 17- Thagr wars the OBljr KM players In double figures. Carolyn Dewberry led the Lady Trojans with 16. Kings Mountain’s boys fell behind early but took advantage of Chase fouls in the second half to come back and win their first game of the year. The lOl victory left both clubs tied for seventh place with 1-8 marks. TTiirty four fouls were called on die Trojans and the Mountaineers con nected on 81 of 60 foul shots to win the game. KMHS made only six field goals In the second half but canned 28 free throws. Chase had a Ug scoring edge on KM horn the floor (26 field goals to 17) but made only nine of 18 foul shots. Chase lost five players by fouls, including four atarters. Derrick Harrla, who scored 18 points, was the only Chase starter to stay around until the end.
