pursue. The drag user,
even early In his use,
wants to hide his Involve
ment, to avoid outcries
of discovery and the possl-
bfllty that confirmation of
parental suspicion will
eventually cut him off
from hla supply source.
Thus, the parent must
proceed In his evaluation
of the situation with grim
determination, undaunted
by the teen’s reactloiu to
his prying.
If you suspect that your
teen Is using, drugs, the
only safe and sane ap
proach Is to get the matter
out Into the open Immedi
ately. Under no cir
cumstances should you
give the impression that
you will handle the matter,
"Just between you and I,”
and attempt to keep It
under wraps while trying
to stop drug use yourself.
This would be like trying to
treat a broken neck with
home remedies. Seek and
obtain professional help
and counseling at once. If

for Information or. If you’d
rather not, call an unre
lated State office and ask

connections for Informa
tion. Do not let the matter
ride!
Teens and even some
parents seem to believe
that law enforcement offi
cers take great delight In
persecuting. If not
prosecuting, drug users. If
the end result of drug
addiction were not so
serious, so physically and
morally damaging, such a
thought would be
humorous. The fact Is that
we In law enforcement,
like everybody else, are
very weary of the drug
problem, as our Job would
be much earier without
having to ccmslder Its
effects. But we do realize,
as should all parents, drug
abuse Is not going to "go
away” almidy by pushing
It Into a more tolerable
position In our thinking.
And, since drug abuse Is
still Illegal, and thereby
part of law enforcement’s
responsibility, we must
give It all of the considera
tion and attention It ob-
vtoualy deserves.
Ibis office has no choice
except to help young
people to better them
selves through adherence
to the laws of this com
munity. Won’t you assist
us In every way you find
poaalblo, tor the good ot
your own and all children?
