Fiddlers Convention Is Planned DENVER - Officials of the sponsoring East • Lincoln Optimist Club ' reported today that plans are shaping up well for the lllth annual J. E. Mainer Memorial Fiddlers and Bhiegrass Convention. Itie fund-raising effort Is scheduled for Frl., Mar. 11, 6 p. m. tU midnight and Sat. Mar. 13, noon til after midnight at the Rock Springs School In Denver. Larry Black, convention chairman stated that Judging from Interest already shown by musicians and country music fans, the event promises to top the previous record of 3,000 spectators and 00 bands. , Black called the event "a southeastern states champlonidllp event” and can back up this statement. String musicians from N. C., S. C., Va., Tenn. and Qa. attended last year. These groups are after the applause from the audience and the $1,000 In prises doesn't exactly discourage them. "It looks like we're going to have another outstanding show,” Black said. A new category of competltlan that Is being added this year will be team clogging. Fifteen clogg teams are presently entered In the contest ' which will begin at 1 p. m. Sat., Mar. 13. Other categories of competition will Include old time and bhiegrass band, fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, baas, buck dancing, hog calling, and ham bone ccsitest.
