S. McWhlrter accompanied the group. Science Club members went on their annual Science Chib camping trip at Sliding Rock. The group left Friday morning and returned Sunday af ternoon. The group ate at the Plsgah-Flah Camp on Friday. On Saturday they went down Sliding Rock and cooked a steak aui^r. The group hiked over the campalte a great deal and went to the NASA Tracking Station where they went on a tour. Mr. and Airs. Lavender and Mr. Bryaon chaperoned the group. Sailors received their caps and gowns and In vitations last week. Un derclassmen attended a class meeting Monday discussing graduation next year. The Senior Choir held a picnic Crawford at the Bat tleground. Mrs. Myrle McClure and Miss Kay Humphries are the choral directors. Lawson Aids Rescue At Sea Coast Guard Boat- swsdn’s Mate Second Class Samuel G. Lawson m, whose wife Lillian la the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brooks of Route 1, Box 370, IQngs Mountain, N. C., participated In the rescue of a man In New Or leans. He was serving as the ccocswaln at a Coast Guard utility boat from the Coast Chmrd Captain of the port unit. His boat was sent to search the harbor on the night of March 31 for a man who had fallen over board from a ship's launch. The operator of the launch was found cUnlng to a ship’s anchor chain, after supping Into the water while maneuvering In the harbor. The man was assisted to aafety and was listed In satisfactory condition. He joined the Coast Guard tn January 1060.
