lugh INQ ‘Mothers’ Was Theme For Senior Citizens Program "Mothers” was the theme for the Senior Citizens Program last Friday at the Kings Mountain Community Center. Mrs. Verlee Mask and Mrs. Thelma Hicks were In charge of the program. T^ie program opened with Mrs. Mask welcoming everyone and quoting the scripture verse which says “Honor thy father and mother.” Mrs. Diane Davis read a poem entitled "Why God Made Mothers." Mrs. Margaret Meeks gave a brief talk on Mothers and the qualities which they Instill In their children. Among the qualities she mentioned were faith and hope, Love Mrs. Meeks concluaea with a prayer for all Mothers. The heart of everyone seemed touched as Mrs. Wyonna Pearson sang the hymn "Suppdrtlme." Mrs. Connie Putnam, secretary for the Kings Mounta'n Aging Program, read a story which she wrote entitled "Reach Out and Touch Spring." The story tells of how a mother realizes that even In the later years can ap preciate the beeauty of life. The recreation department (Roy Pearson and Mrs. Verlee Mask) provided flowers as a special recognition for some of the mothers. Mrs. Thelma Hicks, site manager, made the presentations. Flowers were presented to the- following: Oldest Mather — Mrs. Jenny Yelton bom in 1888. Mother with the most living children — Grace Baldwin who has 12 children living. Mother with the most grandchldren — Mrs. Eunice McKinney who has 40 grandchildren. Mother with the most great-grandchlldrdn — Mrs. Beatrice Pattersoa who has 17 great grandchildren. As an added surprlss, Mrs. Diane Davis gave a cake decorated with pink rosea to Mrs. Beulah Mauney In honor of ths Senior citizens who wars not mothers and especially in honor of the motherly characteristics which Mrs. Mauney exhibits. Mrs. Hicks said Mrs. Davis was "adopting" Mrs. Maunsy as one of her grand mothers for Mothers" Day. The Mothers Day program concluded with everyone enjoying lunch. Serving Homemade Ice Cream El Bethel United Methodist Church will be serving homemade Ice cream and cake Sunday, May 16th, from 8 until 8 p. m. at the church fellowship hall. There Is no charge but donations will be accepted, said a spokesman.
