Good Citizens Are Selected Ten Kings Mountain Senior High students were selected to sing In the AO-State Choral Clinics among BOO high school students from all over North Carolina May B-B at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. McClure. -oOo- JONES FAMILY HONORED Cafeteria staff members of Kings Mountain Junior High School honored Supt. and Mrs. Donald Jones at a "bon voyage” tea last week In the school cafeteria which was decorated with spring flowers in a yellow and white color theme. The staff took the occasion to present Mrs. Jones with a hanging basket and Mr. Jones with a framed certificate. Also present were other members of the family, Donna, Jeff and David Jones. The Jones family will be moving to Asheville this summer where Mr. Jones will become superintendent of Asheville City Schools. The baby weighed seven pounds, five ounces. He Is grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lovelace and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fite, all of Kings Mountain, and great-grandson of Mrs. Irene Melton and Mrs. Mamie Gibbons, both of Kings Mountain, and Mrs. M. J. CANDY STRIPERS An organizational meeting for Candy Stripers to do volunteer work at Kings Mountain Hospital was held Tuesday, May 17 at 10:80 at Kings Mountain High School. The orientation program, which will be conducted by Mrs. Fred Finger, will begin In the conference room at Kings Mountain Hospital on Tuesday, June 21, at 10 a. m. Greene Receives 2 Military Science Awards .. Jimmy R. Greene, a freshman at Lees-McRae CoUege, was the recipient of two Military Science Awards during the Eighteenth Annual Honors and Awards Ceremonies held recently. These awards were presented to Greene by Major Charles Michael of Appalachian State University. The first, a commendation award, was given In recognition of his high achievements In the Military Science Program; the second, the superior cadet award, is the highest ROTC award given and the recipient must be In the top 2B percent of his class In college.
