life.
A pro golfer, Morrow wUl be q>enillng around 19
hcura each day tuning up hla game for the next POA
qualifying tournament, at which time the former Croat
High and Oardner-Webb atandout will be attempting for
the aecond time to earn a tour card.
The 28-year-oId Moirow attempted to qualify for the

ahoU. HU downfaU waa a round of 80 which he ahot on
the fifth day of the event.
Ha other rounda Included a 78, 66, 78, 78 and a final
day 71.
"That one round of 80 klltod me," he recaUed. "It
aeemed like everything I did that <ky waa wrong.
"Other than that,” he added, "I waa real aatUfled
with the way I played. I made all of my mlatakea In one
day.”
Moirow atayed within a ahot or two of the lead until
the fifth round, and that eight over par acore eventually
coat him a player’a card. Of 486 golfera participating,
only 86 received tour carda.
Until the next qualltylng round alx montha from now,
at a alte not yet determined, the Cleveland County man
will be tuning «q> hU game at area couraea, aa well ae
giving leaaona at the Challenger Three courae near

Morrow’a alao probably going to return to the POA
mlnl-tour for a whUe after a highly aucceaaful flrat year
when hU loweat flnlnh waa alxth. He had three aecond
place flnUhea.
Morrow, who helped lead Oardner-Webb to the NAIA
national champicnahlp a year ago, recently aet a new
courae record at Klnga Mountain Country dub with an
eight under par 64. He waa playing with hla coualn, Del
Moirow, Darrell Auatln Sr. and Darrell Auatln Jr.
"I didn’t reallae I waa ahooUng the courae record
there," aald Morrow, who caUa the KMCC courae the
tougheat In the county. He hit 17 of the 18 greena In
reguUUon and hit the 478-yard flrat hole In two ahoU.
He alao holda the courae record at Rlverbend (61),
and he came within a ahot of the record of 63 at Lnn Yalr

HU dally routine Ineludee getting iq> at 7 a. m., eating
afaat breakfaat, then working on hU chipping game for
one hour and a half.
After that, he playa nine holea, then practlcea for
three more houra, then playa 18 moreliolea, and then
capa hU day off by practicing more In the late afternoon
and eariy evening houra.
Ha long houra of woik are paying off, however, and
he’a confidant he’ll earn hU POA card the next time
around.
"BI ever get In the poaltlon I waa the laat time,’’ ha
noted, "I’ll play a lot differently. Had I only thought, I
would have my card right now. Tlie day I ahot the 80,1
e«inii i6th place but went out there trying to break par.
Ul’d thought a Uttto bit and Juat tried to hit the greena
and come In wldi even par, I would have been a tot
better off.”
Moirow feeU he can be a winner on the pro tour and
can be among the top 30 money 'wlnnara almply by'
playing par golf.
"Fm not aaylng how I’d atack up agalnat tha big
atara,’’ he aald, "but a lot of people 1 know who got their
carda laat year are doing pretty good on the tour and
making a lot of money. And when they were playing the
mlnl-tour, I waa doing Juat aa good aa they were.”
Morrow feela a lot of the POA tournamenU, like the
Kemper Open, are relatively eaiy par breakara, and
many of the othera, like the JackaonvlUe Open, can be
won with an even par and aomatlmaa higher.
"U a player could go out and ahoot even par In every
tournament,’’ he aald, "he could make 8100,000 a year,
win at leaat two tournamenU and place In the top 30
money wlnnera.”
With that goal In mind, Morrow will be doing a lot of
pracUclng the next alx montha, waiting for another
chance that he UeU aure wlU make hU woih wor-
thwhUa.
