It reads: PROCLAMATION- APPRENTICESHIP MONTH Whereas the United States of America, the State of North Carolina, and the City of Kings Mountain must keep apace with the ever ad vancing and changing Industrial techniques of production that are essential In maintaining : world leadership In the betterment of life for all people, the development of this City’s skilled craftworkers Is of vital Importance to the C(m- tlnued economic growth of our City, State and Nation; and Whereas the chal lenges presented toy growing sdentlfle and technological knowl edge, accompanied by growing demands upon limited natural re sources require a con- conmltant growth In the versatility and com petence of Kings Mountain’s skilled craftworkers; and Whereas the North Carolina Department of Labor working with die Bureau of Apprentice ship and Training of the United States Depart ment of Labor seeks to help achieve, through cooperative efforts, a highly skilled work force capable of meeting the City, the State, and the National economic and security goals; and Whereas the North Carolina Department of Labor and the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training bring together and stimulate those responsible for training to provide equal opportunities for all qualified Indlvlducds to acquire needed skills without regard to race, creed, sex, age, ethnic origin, or physical handicaps, thus In creasing the em ployment cpportunitles, learning abilities, and economic security of the Individual worker, and Whereas the National Apprenticeship Act was approved on August 16, 1987; Now, therefore, I, John Henery Moss, Mayor of the City of Kings Mountain, do hereby proclaim the month of August l, 1877 as Apprenticeship Month. I urge Kings Moun tain’s employers and union organisations which ue not now training apprentices to take appropriate steps to assure the develqp- moit of skilled woricers In our community; and I urge those organizations which are now training appren tices to strengthen and expand their programs.
