For lunch program schools operating on the Special Milk Program, children eligible for free lunches are eligible for one half pint of milk per day served free. In addition the child may buy extra milk but only Flim Flammers Rob KM Man John T. Dixon, of Rt. 2, was robbed of $1,060 by two men posing as representatives of the Department of Social Services last Wed nesday shortly after noon, according to Det. Lt. Gus Huffstetler of the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Dixon, alone In his house, said the two men told him they represented the welfare department and said they had come to “clean up his house.” One of the two men allegedly left the room to "measure the house" while the other man engaged In conversation with Dixon. In addition, families not meeting these criteria but with other unusual expenses due to unusually high medical expenses, shelter costs In excess of 30 percent of Income, special education expenses due to the mental or physical condition of a chUd, and disaster or casualty losses are urged to apply. As a result of the revised Income scale, some families who did not quality previously may now be eligible for reduced price meals. Parents may secure new applications from the office of the prin cipal In each school. No changes will be made unless the parent submits a new ap plication. All ap plications are con fidential. In certain cases foster children are also eligible for these benefits. If a family has foster children living with them and wishes to apply for such meals and milk for them. It should contact the school. Under the provisions of the policy, Martha H. Wright, director, will review applications and determine eligibility. If a parent Is dissatisfied with the ruling of the official, he may wish to discuss the decision with the determining official on an Informal basis. If he wishes to make a formal appeal, he may make a request either orally or In writing to Martha H. Wright, 600 W. Parker St.. Kings Mountain. Phone 739-7666 for a hearing to appeal the decision. The policy contains and outline of the hearing procedure. If a family member becomes unemployed or If family size changes, the family should contact the school to file a new application. Such changes may make the children of the family eligible for reduced price meals, or for additional benefits such as free meals and milk If the family Income falls at or below the levels shown above. In the operation of child feeding programs, no child will be discriminated against because of race, sex, color, or national origin. Each school and office of the superintendent has a copy of the complete policy which may be reviewed by any Interested party.
