/ -< 47 LLS WIWl i9 m < )IL -< Volleyball Team Divides Pair Of SWC Matches Kings Mountain’s girls volleyball team split a pair of South western 3-A Conference matches last week, losing to Chase 16-14, and 16-13 Wednesday and defeating R-S Cen tral 16-8 and 16-11 Thursday. The Mountalnettes are scheduled to host county rival Shelby Thursday at 4 p. m. In their regular season finale. The conference tournament Is sched uled to begin next week at a site not yet decided. Cbach Kathy Brooks called the Chase game “the most evenly matched game” of the season. She cited Angle Hickman for bringing the team back In the second game after KM fell behind 11-3. The Mountalnettes came back to tie It at 11-all before Chase went on to win. Priscilla Rlcken- backer did a good Job serving for KMHS and Debbie Appling, Judy Henderson and Lori Smith were cited for their defensive play. Thursday against R-S, the Mountalnettes were In command all the way. They led the first game from start to finish and controlled the second game after falling behind only briefly at the start. "Everybody played an outstandl^ game," noted Coach Brooks, who used all of her players. Coach Brooks cited Appling, Henderson, Trlcla Blalock, Rlckenbacker, Jewel Reavls, Smith, Hick man, Penny Jackson and Barbara McClain. Bass Tournament Slated Saturday DENVER, N. C. - Officials of the Denver Jaycees reported today that plans are shaping up well for their up coming Bass Fishing Toumsiment. The con test Is scheduled for Saturday, October 8 from 7:30 a. m. til 4:30 p. m. on Lfdce Norman. Headquarters for the event will be the Pier Marina on Hwy. 16 near Plant Marshall at Terrell, N. C. Kings Mountain’s pee wee and Junior midget footballers will face tough assignments Wednesday at John Gamble Stadium when they host Belmont In a pair of Gaston League contests. The pee wees were Idle last week while the Junior midgets beat a tough Bessemer City team 13- 6. The Belmont Junior midgets are unbeaten In league play and share first place with KM and Mason Athletics. Bel mont’s only loss was a 7- 6 decision to Mason, the team which Is the top- ranked team In the nation. Kings Mountain’s Junior pee wees, which consists of boys ages eight and nine, are also unbeaten, having whipped McAdenvUle 19-6 and Mt. Holly 20-0. In last Thursday’s game with Mt Holly, the KM team got three touchdowns from Edwin Sherer. He scored on a 70 yard kickoff return and on runs of 30 and 26 yards. Scotty Bryant ran for the extra point. Coaches Rick Sutherland, Jim Lit tlejohn and Danny Bagwell cited Phillip Ramsey, Derek Jordan, Dale Putnam and Vic Crowley led the defensive effort. KM plays Mt. Holly Thursday at 7 p. m. at City Stadium, then ends the season with games against Belmont and McAdenvUle.
