Owens was charged with reckless driving by KM police and with recklesss driving, failure to stop for blue light and siren and driving under the In fluence of Intoxicating liquor. The chase began about 12:42 a. m. In Cherryvllle when Owens reportedly ran a stop sign. A Cherry vllle officer pursued Owens down Hwy. 216 to Kings Mountain. Both drivers said they didn’t see each other In the parking area of McCoy service Station and their autos were In volved In collision with damages estimated at $400 to a 1967 Ford operated by Larry B. Deaver, 1700 North- woods, and a 1071 Chevy taxi operated by Botmle T. Burton of 601 jELCkson St. Ptl. James Camp said Mr. Burton was leaving his taxi stand and turned on Railroad Ave. at the same time Deaver was turning right off King St. and Into the McCoy’s station lot. A parked 1072 Chevro let owned by Tommy Grayson, Mountain St. Jeweler, was hit by a car, Identified as be longing to Luther F. Robertson, Jr. of Gastcnla, operating a 1076 PonUac, on Mountain and Cherokee Sept. 26. Mr. Robertson said he didn’t realise the car was damaged and left the scene.
