Davis For District Commissioner During my last term as commluloner, the salaries of our department heads were between $38,000 and $80,000 per year. When checking at City HsOl recently, I discovered that the salaries were well over $70,000 per year, not including the Mayor’a ealary of $18,900. It aeems to me that this is entirely too much for a city of our else. I feel that we are paying part of these salaries from a Federal Grant, because I do not believe our taxpayers could afford this. At tho present we are paying more than $70,000 annually to people employed by the City but never have and probably never will live within our city limtte. They su« cltlsens of surrounding towns. We have numerous college graduates who were bom and raised in Kinge Mountain - both black and white — that are capable of filling these positions. IWHY ARE THEY HAVING TO GO TO OTHER TOWNS TO FIND EM PLOYMENT? WHY AREN’T WE EMPLOYINO THESE PEOPLE? They are ourtaxpayers and this is where their salaries should come from. The figures mentioned here are not something I have heard — they are actual figures taken from the Payroll records at City Hall. If you find them hard to believe, you as a clttaen have the right to go to the City Hall and ask to see the records. These and all other records of this nature are available for your In spection. I feel that the above Is something each of ua should be concerned Mbout. I foel that we should pay our employee good salaries but some of these are ridiculous.
