M 09 Capsules National Education Week Event Open House At Senior High Monday The week of Nov. 13-19 Is National Education Week across America and Monday night In Kings Mountain the senior high Is holding open house for parents and citizens. Principal Forrest Wheeler will host the open ing meeting beginning at 6:30 p. m. in Barnes Auditorium to welcome the visitors, then will turn the program over to Kings Mountain District Schools Supt. WUllam Davis. The local board of education, along with the two new members elected Tuesday, will be Invited to attend the open house. Supt. Davis will offer remarks on the Kings Mountain schools. Following the auditorium program, parents will be escorted to the home rooms of their student-children and will meet the teachers and be given their youngster’s school schedules. The parents will also be tsiken to the various classes their children attend to meet the teachers. A guided tour of the senior high facilities Is also offered to both the parents, visitors and education board members. Refreshments will be served following the tour. This portion of the pro gram Is sponsored by the schools Food Service Class, sponsored by Mrs. Peggy Baird. Following the open house program the board of education will hold its regular monthly meeting, beginning at 7:30 p. m., in Barnes Auditorium. ^4. Kings Mountain will definitely take part in the renewed federally funded Community Development Block Grants program. Mayor John Moss met with HUD officials In At lanta Tuesday to discuss the new three-year CD pro gram and to determine guidelines and fund totals available. “Kings Mountain’s app^catlons and programs under CD for the past two. years were outstanding,*^' Mayor Moss said, “ac cording to what I learned In Atlanta. I also found out that guidelines are more flexible under the new bill.” The mayor said beginning with this year’s CD applications, the city Is entitled to apply for addi tional funding under the small cities program.
