Kings Mountain - not Just the big.
fine old homes found here, but also
commercial suid industrial struc
tures, churches, schools and even
groups of mill houses.
‘‘Sometimes a structure Is not
significant Individually,” Ms. Perrin
explained. "But In groups, such as
the groups of mill houses here, they
may be unique.”
When Ms. Perrin finds a structure
or a group of buildings significant
either historically, culturaUy or
architecturally, she will note a brief
description sind take photographs of
it for her records. After the Initial
Inventory Is complete, she will go
back to particularly significant sites
for more In-depth research and
documentation. Later she will make
an assessment of her flndlng.s
The assessment will Include In
formation on what additional
research will be needed and which
properties will receive further at
tention. Baaed on these findings,
additional archival and field
research will be conducted and the
location of sdl the properties will be
mapped on local planning maps.
When the final assessment of the
Inventory Is complete, priority
rating on the relative significance of
the property Inventoried, recom
mendations as to Individual
properties or areas which should be
further researched for national
register nominations and recom
mendations concerning future
preservation planning In the com
munity will be made.
Throughout the process of the
Inventory, community education
will be conducted to make Kings
Mountain residents aware of the
program. Its purposes and Its fin
dings.
