Downtown Kings Mountain McDaniel Sparks Champion’s Victory Jerry McDaniel’s first Inning grand slam homer sparked Champion's Landscaping to a 6-4 victory over the Lions Club Monday night In Dixie Youth major league action at the Deal Street Park. McDaniel, who also hurled the win, blasted the Oiamplon team to a 4-0 lead, and they added what turned out to be the two winning runs In the second Inning. Wyte, Byers, Littlejohn, Deese and Morris also had a hit apiece for the win ners. Batchler, Yarboro and Rodgers had a hit each for the losers. Mike Homesley was the losing pitcher. In a minor league game played Monday night, Herndon’s Landscaping outscored Vitamin Bees 18- 16. Michael Short was the winning pitcher. Mark Wyte and Raymond Roberts pitched for the losers. Herndon’s came from behind with 10 runs in the fifth Inning to erase a 14-8 deficit. Fleming and Bell were leading hitters for the winners and Trent Sanders led the losers. Marty Bridges was the loser. In minor league play Tuesday, American Legion defeated Bolin’s Day Care 8-1 and Vitamin Bees whli^d (Jptlmist 16-8. Monty Deaton hurled the Legion victory and Timmy Adams and Deaton led the hitting. Jarrod Wright took the loss and Brent Bagwell was top hitter for Bolin’s. Vitamin Bees scored 18 runs in the fifth to end its game with Optimist. Raynard Roberts sparked the attack with a home Mike Homesley hurled the Lions victory and Tim Rogers led the hitting with a perfect 4-for-4. Rogers slammed a three-run homer In the third and Tommy Batchler and Walt Cooper also hit homers. Marty Bridges led the losers with 3-for-S, In cluding a home run. Ira Clark was the losing pit cher. Lavar Curry stole home in the top of the sixth in ning to give CAC Its victory over Kiwanls. Curry also led the winners at bat with 3-for-8, including a homer. Philip Ramsey hurled three Innings of no-hlt ball and Edwin Sherrer pitched three Innings of one-hit ball for Kiwanls. Richie Gold took the loss. Kent Boheler, Todd Gossett and Tim Barrett had a hit each for the winners and Wilson had the only hit for Police. Doug Johnson got the win for Nationwide In Its victory over Jaycees. Roy’s Boys softball team of Kings Mountain opened its season on an unusual note In last week’s Waco Invitational Tournament. The KM ten played three games In the double- elimination event, and all three were won or lost by a single run. The team, sponsored by Roy Pearson, lost to Shuford Tire 6-6 in the first game, defeated Sam’s Mini-Mart 10-0 In the second and lost to Dover MIU 13-11 In the third.
