Pure •—MTHROB-HBRALD—TueaiUy, June It, 1970 Curry And Sherrer Hurl No-Hitters In Dixie Youth Action Lavar (Ba Ba) Curry of C&C MeUl'B Dixie Youth major league team hurled hla second no-hltter of the season 1st week In an ll-l victory over Champion’s Landscaping. Curry walked five and struck out 13 and had half of C&C’s six hits off Mark Deese. One of his hits was a grand slam homer which sparked a five-run uprising In the second Inning. one each for the winners. Robert Price had three hits, Oreg Anthony two, Deaton two and Mike Houser, Bryant Wells and Keith Morris one each for the Legion. Rusty Bumgardner hurled a one-hitter for Edwin Sherrer of Klwanls also hurled his second no-hltter Friday as his team defeated the Jaycees 10-2. Sherrer fanned seven batters. Tim Barrett and Pat Oreen had two hits each for the winners and Sherrer, Todd Gossett and Phillip Ramsey added one apiece. Gossett, Mike Brown, Keith Proctor and Rodrlck Boyce were cited for their defensive play. Plonk Oil In Its win over Bolin's. Kevin BoUn got the only hit for BoUn’s. Bumgardner led the winners with 3-for-S and Sean Ramsey singled home the winning run In the bottom of the sixth Inning. Morrow Earns PGA Tour Card In other games last week, Rotary defeated CAC 10-1, Champion's defeated Lions 6-3 and Jaycees whipped Nationwide 7-4. Kevin Roberts hurled a two-hltter for Rotary while Ms teammates backed him with a nlne-hlt attack against Chris Lovelace. Ray Bridges was 3-for-3 with four nms batted In and Steve Fain 2-for-3 for Rotary. Roberts struck out 10 and walked only one. The lone run off him came In the second Inning on a passed ball. Jerry McDaniel hurled a three-hitter and struck out 10 In Champion's win over the Lions. Johnny Yarbro was the losing pitcher. Nell Moss, Andrea Littlejohn, Jerry Peterson and Sam Smith had a hit ^lece for the winners and Yarbro, Mike Homesley and Tim Ro-tgers had a hit each for the lions. Nationwide scored four runs In the first Inning and held on to defeat the Jaycees behind the pit ching of Jarvis Young. Marty Bridges was the loser. Steve Cogdell was 3-for-4 to lead Nationwide’s seven Mt attack and Ira Clark had a double, home run and two runs batted In for the winners. Therndon Brown hit a home run, Robert Appling had two singes and David Moore one single. In minor league action, Herndon's Landscaping edged the American Legion 6-4 and Plonk Oil nipped Bolin's Day Care 6- 6, Mike Short hurled the win for Herndon's striking out 11, and Monty Deaton took the loss despite a strong flve-Mt, lO-strlkeout performance. The win moved Herndon Into sole possession of first place. Jody Champion had two Mts and Tim Bell, Mike Short and Jarrell Smith After three tries, Cleveland County’s Rodney Morrow esirned his PGA tour card last week In the PGA qualifying school at Plnehurst. Morrow shot a 71-72-77- 78 -296 In the 72-hoIe qualifying round. He was one of 28 golfers to earn a card. Leading qualifier was Terry Mauney of Charlotte, who shot a 384. Both Mauney and Morrow are former golfers at Gaitlner-Webb College. Morrow, a Bolling Springs native, has played oi the mlnl-tour In Florida the last two summers and has been among the leading money winners there. Nappi Wants Edwin Sherrer hurled a two-hltter Friday night to lead Klwanls to a 13-1 Dixie Youth Major League victory over Nationwide ^Insurance. Pat Oreen had two of the Klwanls hits and Kevin Weaver, Kent Boheler, Ttm Barrett, Phillip Ramsey and Roderick Boyce had one apiece. Oogel and Sidney Brown had the two Nationwide MU. In another game Friday, Police defeated Jaycees 11-4. Denorrls Wilson picked up the win and Ira dark took the loss. Scotty Bryant and Steve Ingram were 8-for-4 each to lead Police and Marty Bridges was 4-for-4 for Jaycees. In a minor league game FVlday, Plonk Oil defeaUd Optimist Al-1 behind the two-Mt pitching of Rusty Bumgardner. Bumgardner was 2-for-8, SUve lineberry 3-for-4 and Todd Lovelace had a home run to lead the winners. Bradshaw and Matthews had the Optimist hits. KM Knit, Foote Tied For Top Spot Kings MounUin Knit and Foote Mineral are tied again for the Industrial league softball lead after KM Knit was upset by Eaton 14-10 last week. In other games last week, Foote edged K Mills 16-14, Klnmont defeated Carmet 24-3 and Kings Mills edged Park Yam 9-6. KM Knit and FooU are both 11-2, followed by Eaton and Klnmont at 9-4 each. Kings Yams 7-6, K Mills 4-9, Park Yarn 8-10 and Carmet 0-18, Gene McCullough went 6-for-8 and Rocky Goforth, Glenn Perkins and Roy Kale 4-for-5 each to lead Eaton’s victory over KM Knit. Otis Cole and Vernon Bell each had 4-for-4 for the losers. One of Bell’s MU was a home run. Ronnie Wilson was 4-for- 6 and J.D. Jackson and Gary Oliver 8-for-6 each to lead Foote’s win.
