Bowen’s Team
Wins Three
Wimp Bowen’s team won
three of four games from John
Dilling and Gerald Hipp and
Johnny Dye split a four-game
series in Duckpin League bowl-
ing action Tuesday night at the
Dilling Heating Lanes. °
Wimp Bowen rolled a 129 line
and 355 set to lead his team to
victory. Sara Cash hada 119 line
and 323 set for Dilling’s team.
Johnny Dye scored a 125 fine
and 357 set to lead his team’s
split with Hipp. Ronnie Scruggs
had a 113 line and 307 set for
Hipp’s team.
Deacons Win
In Bowling
The Deacons won four games
from the Disciples in Church
Duckpin League bowling action
Thursday night at the Dilling
Heating Lanes.
Jack Barrett’s 112 line and
Danny McAbee’s. 297 series
were high marks for the winners.
David Dixon had a 103 line and
275 set for the losers.
In other action, the Holy
Rollers won three of four games
from the Sinners. Mark Dixon
led the winners with a 127 line
and 348 set. Jerry Barrett had a
123 line and 321 set for the Sin-
ners.
Rotary
Tourney
Scheduled
The 10th annual Rotary Club
Scholarship Golf Tournament
will be held Sat., Mar. 26, and
Sun., Mar. 27 at Kings Moun-
tain Country Club.
Entry fee is $25 and includes
green fees, tournament fees and
one free round of golf the week
of the tournament. The tourney
is open to anyone.
Prizes will be awarded to the
top three finishers in each flight.
Applications are available at
the KMCC pro shop.
SOFTBALL MEETING
There will be an Industrial
Softball League organizational
meeting Tues. Mar, 22 at. 7 p.m;
at the Kings Mountain Com-
munity Center. All interested
managers and sponsors are urged
to attend. The league is Spon-
sored by the Kings Mountain
Parks and Recreation Depart-

DIXIE BASEBALL
Dixie Youth baseball registra-
tion will be held Friday from 7-9
p.m. at the Community Center.
All players ages 7 to 12 are eligi-
ble. Persons who played last year
must re-register.

Mounties Whip Huss
Kings Mountain High scored
its first baseball win of the
season Tuesday at home,
defeating 4-A Hunter Huss of
Gastonia 74.
Tommy Batchler picked up
the win for the Mounties, who
are now 1-2 against non-
conference foes. Batchler work-
ed the first five innings and
struck out four. Jerry McDaniel
came on in the sixth and fanned
three over the final two innings.
Hunter Huss grabbed a 2-0
lead in the top of the second inn-
ing, but the Mounties came back
with three runs in the bottom of
the second to take the lead for
good.
Skip Birskovich reached base
on an error to get things started.
After Todd Cloninger’s ground
rule double put runners on se-
cond and third, Richie Gold
singled to tie the game. Gold
then scored what proved to be
the winning run on a single by
Maury Williams.
‘The Mounties’ added WO
more runs in the fourth on
Gold’s single, two Huss errors
and Brad Reynolds’ two-run
single. They scored their final
two runs in the sixth on another
single. by Gold, Mark
Champion’s ground rule double
and another two-run single by
Reynolds.
Kings Mountain collected 12
hits and made only one error.

Our pitchers are doing a good
job but we’ve got to be consis-
tent hitters to win.”
Kings Mountain pitchers have
issued only three bases on balls
in 21 innings, and one of those
was intentional.
The Mounties and Huss will
battle again Friday at 4 p.m. at
Sims Park in Gastonia. Kings

Wins Basketball Crown
Commercial Shearing won the
annual Industrial League basket-
ball tournament held recently at
the Kings Mountain Communi-
ty Center.
Stanley Glenn and Phil
were outstanding
Stewart
players for the winners.
Spectrum, led by Larry Hop-
per and Daryl Queen, finished
second and Foote Mineral, led
by Charles Jones and Jewel Wat-
son, was third.
Hamrick
Player
Of Year
Kings Mountain’s Trina
Hamrick was named Player of
the Year in the Southwestern
3-A Conference for the 1982-83
basketball season.
The senior standout averaged
21 points and 10 rebounds per
game for the Mountainettes,
who won their first conference
title since joining the SWC in
. 1954. The KM girls compiled a
22-5 overall record and advanc-
ed to the semi-finals of the
District 7 3-A Tournament.
Joining Hamrick on the All-
Conference team was junior for-
ward Sonya McClain, who
averaged 15 points and 10 re-
bounds per contest.
Worth Johnson of R-S Cen-
tral, which finished second in the
regular season and won the
SWC .tournament, was named
Conference Coach of the Year.
Kings Mountain placed only
one player on the Boys All-
Conference team. Senior for-
ward Frank Parker, a two-year
starter who led the Mounties in
scoring, was selected. He led the
Mounties to a 14-10 record and
a fifth place finish in the SWC
under first-year coach Charles
Lockee.
Tim Hamrick, Farris Turner,
Jimmy Watkins, Dale Moore
and Calvin Goode made the All-
Southwestern Conference
Wrestling team. They led the
Mounties to the SWC title for
the third time in five years under
Coach Steve Moffitt.
The Mountaineers picked up
26 points in the winter sports to
take over the lead in the running
