Page 4B-KINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday. July 21, 1983 Everything’s Mooi From Page 1-B night “Soap operas’ are favorites. Jerrie wanted a hat like “J.R.’ and so Doyle Camp- bell provided a tall, Texas-style hat for her from McGinnis Department Store. Anita gave Jerrie a yellow shirt which reads, “It’s Better In Kings Mountain, North Carolina” and Moun- taineer teeshirts that she will carry home with her. Jerrie has worn the Kings Mountain shirt at all the outings she has attend- ed and all her friends have wanted one like it. She likes Olivia Newton John records, posters, and is taking souvenirs to her six nephews and a J.R. hat to her dad. Her Kings Mountain family took Jerrie and Ella Hochsten- back to the mountains this week and they stopped at the home of Mrs. George Houser and saw the view of the spectacular moun- tains from Laura’s backporch. Pat (Mrs. John) Plonk, Virginia (Mrs. L.E.) Hinnant and Mrs. L. Arnold (Julia) Kiser were visiting and enjoying a bridge party. The Campbell family also visited in Boone and Grandfather Moun- tain and Ann and Emily Camp- bell recounted the fun time they had enroute. A favorite Dutch word of the Ambassadors is “Mooi” which means “nice.” Everything was “Mooi”. And when Jerrie saw a wooden sign that read; “Falton Crest”, Anita had to stop the car for the Dutch visitors to take a picture. Both Ella and Jerrie said they were go- ing to tell all their friends they had seen “Falcon Crest”. When they saw the Blowing Rock Inn World Of Friendship A World Of Peace From Page 1-B The Campbell girls learned quickly that Siergers was not easily pronounced, so they in- troduced their new friend as Jer- rie Campbell. Doyle and Anita Campbell and their daughters will be the only family among the 25 people traveling to Holland this Fall from Kings Mountain-Gastonia. The Campbells plan to take ex- tra time abroad to see other areas of Europe. Other Ambassadors living with Kings Mountain families last week were Ella Hochsten- back at the home of Ruth Gam- ble; Annie Prinse at the home of Connie Phifer; Lisen Van Hoos - and Jack Henselmans at the home of Lynne and Charles Mauney; and Mien Tinnemans and Louis Tinnemans at the home of Wanza and I.C. Davis. The Tinnemans spoke little English but quickly picked up some words, including some slang. Mr. Tinnemans led his fellow Dutch in singing their Na- tional Anthem to Americans at the Monday night welcome par- ty. Those words were: . “Wilhelmus van Nassouwe; Benick van Duitschen bloet; Den Baderlant ghetrouwe; Blijfick tot inden doet. Ben prince van Oran- jen Benick vrij onverveert; Den Coninck van Hispanjen Hebick altijdgheeert. Mijn schild endebetrouwen Sijt ghy, o Godt, mijn Heer; Op U so willick bouwen, Verlaat mij nim- mermeer! Dat ick doch vroom mach blijven, U dienaer t’allers- tont, Die tyranny verdrijven, Die mij mijn hert doorwont.” Kings Mountain hosts gave their guests background infor- mation on the Battle of Kings Mountain, the all-American pastime, Baseball, including the humorous sermon by “Rev. Jones” on “The First Baseball Game”, “It says Eve stole first, Adam stole second, etc. and ect....copies of patriotic songs, and much literature on the com- munity and state. The Friendship Force of Kings Mountain Gastonia is a non- profit organization coordinated locally and affiliated with the Friendship Force of North Carolina and the Friendship Force International. Each year up to 200,000 people serve either as Ambassador or hosts. What is the purpose of Friend- ship Force? To make friends. An opportunity for people of dif- ferent cultures to learn something of their fellow man, to discover the similarities of all cultures and to find that basic human needs, desires, and con- cerns are the same throughout the world. It is indeed a small world as new and old friends learn of each other through the Friendshipo Force. A World of Friendship Is A World Of Peace. "and loves watermelon. She had they were sure that it was indeed a “Falton Crest” mansion and stopped to take another picture. “We all had a “mooi time”, said young Emily, age 9. : Jerrie, who speaks English fluently and studied four years in high school (English is a required subject), got her first taste of an American hotdog, and loved it, her picture on the front page of The Herald last week and also in the Gastonia Gazette (with the watermelon) and is regarded as a “celebrity” by the young Camp- bells. She admits that many of he customs in her country are dif- ferent, including food and eating habits, and American houses are much larger and the biggness of this country is unbelievable. Jerrie hopes to return some- day to visit the Campbells and invited them to come to see when when they go to Holland in September. Jerrie lives four kilometers, about three miles, from Asten, she said . The cnet one Hard-Working Committees sisters, who are now living at home. Jerrie said that one of her older sisters had lived in Ten- nessee briefly and didn’t like it. “It can’t see why”, she says. An older brother lives in Australia. The others live in Holland. Although she had ridden the train to Amsterdam and Belgium, Jerrie had never flown before she came to the United States. She said that she had visited in Belgium before coming abroad. Living with an American family with two daughters is an experience that has given Jerrie an opportunity to see the lifestyle of an American family. And Doyle, Anita and their family have tried to show her in a few short days some of the highlights of their busy life. And Anita agrees that serving as a host has also helped her to get to known many of the other hosts who are entertaining Dutch visitors. And that’s what the Friendship Force is all about, meeting new friends. - TRANSLATORS - Lib Stewart, right, of the Herald Publishing Company newspapers, has a story translated to her from a Holland paper by Trees Van Steen, leita and Pieter Lightenberg during their visit here with the Friendship Force last week. Modern scientists would do well to approach the Christian faith in the same spirit of fearless openness. In that spirit, | would call Christ a scientist. facing life as Christ faced it. No man can have the mind of Christ in him without He rejected traditions of men and saw things for Himself. He saw embedded in everything about Him evidence of the existence and positive nature of a personal God. And He fearlessly proclaimed it. Science is founded on faith and thus, true science, can walk hand in hand with the Christian way. This Series Made Possible By These Business Firms and Compliments Of Berry Brothers, Inc.
