! Page 2BRINGS MOUNTAIN HERALD-Thursday. August 25, 1983 JR LT. COL. BOBBY HUSKEY Bobby Huskey Retires From Air National Guard CHARLOTTE-A Henderson- ville pilot was honored by the N.C. Air National Guard upon his retirement August 7 in a ceremony in Charlotte. Lt. Col. Bobby P. Huskey, Chief of Operation Plans, 145th Tactical Air Group, received the Air Force and N.C. National Guard Commendation Medals for 21 years of outstanding ser- vice as a pilot with the Air Guard. With six years of active duty prior to joining the Guard in 1962, Huskey accumulated more than 5,000 hours of flying time during his career, many of which were on the C-130B Hercules aircraft. Presently a 17-year veteran pilot with Pan American World Airways, Huskey will continue his civilian piloting out of JFK International Airport in Jamaica, New York. Huskey began his military career in the ROTC porgram at N.C. State University where he graduated with an engineering degree in 1957. He completed high school at Bethware High School in Kings Mountain, where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ww. B. Huskey, still reside. Huskey is married to the former Laura L. Morris of Kings Mountain. They have four children—Robert, Michael, Eric and Carol. Completes Training Gregory L. Hanbright, son of Albert L. and Beryl M. Ham- - bright of Rural Route 1, Grover, has completed training in fun- damental military skills at the Army ROTC basic camp at Fort Knox, Ky. The basic camp is designed to give junior college graduates and college sophomores who have not taken ROTC courses the chance to enter the program. The camp also qualifies high school graduates for the ROTC program at any of the nation’s sis military junior colleges. During the encampment, cadets received training in basic rifle marksmanship, military drill and ceremonies, communica- tions and individual and small unit tactics. Hambright plans to enter the ROTC program at Appalachain State University, Boone, N.C. He is a 1981 graduate of Kings Mountain Senior High. Helms Dinner Set RALEIGH - United States Senator Jesse Helms will be - honored at a dinner in Gastonia on August 26. The event will be held at Ashbrook High School and will begin at 7:30 p.m. “We are all very excited about the Senator’s visit to Gastonia,” said Mrs. Nell Foy, one of the local coordinators of the event. “Tickets have been selling fast, and we expect a capacity crowd,” she concluded. Tickets for the event can be obtained by contacting Mrs. Foy at (704) 865-5957 or the HELMS for Senate office at 919) 876-8522. The tickets are priced at $5 for adults and $3 for students/hildren. The Defense Construc- tion Supply Center (DCSC) of Columbis, Ohio, announced the award of the new contract today to the Ferguson Gear, of 4032 Bessemer City Rd., 28052. With an inventory of over 350,000 items, the Center last year bought over $540 million worth of items that ranged from lumber and wood products to plumbing accessories such as pipe, pumps, valves and fittings. Repair parts are purchased for vehicles as simple as commercial trucks and sedans as complex as military aircraft, ships and sub- marines. DCSC also buys such major end items as tractors, cranes, road machinery, forklifts and mechanized materials handl- ing equipment.
