Former Herald Owner
From Page 1-A
He was consultant for Southern
Railroad land rights and an ap-
praiser for the Prudential Life
Insurance Company. Ever alert
to the needs for the wheels of
justice to run -smoothly, Mr.
Lynch urged leadership from
statesmen, city bankers,
manufacturers, and textile ex-
ecutives in local politics, urging
them to seek and use legal tactics
to collect back taxes from store
owners, some of the taxes having
been in arrears for as long as 40
years. In these ways, he turned
depression into small business
ownership for local families,
some of these businesses still
strong today.
A member of the Kings
Mountain Kiwanis Club, Mr.
Lynch later brought the Rotary
Club to Kings Mountain and
served as president for two years.
He taught the Bible Class at
First Presbyterian Church, serv-
ed on the building committee of
the present Presbyterian
Church, where his membership
now stands.
Ill health forced Mr. Lynch’s
retirement in 1969 and chronic
illness followed until his death.
He was preceded in death by a
daughter in 1969, Jean Lynch
Mrs. William Mauney) Hern-
don and in 1982 by Betsy Lynch
(Mrs. George R.) Tolleson.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Elizabeth Simmons Lynch, of
the home; one daughter, Lossie
(Mrs. Sam) Harrell of Atlanta,
Ga., 10 grandchildren: Jane

A Santa Tree at Kings Moun-
tain Hospital will make
Christmas merrier for under-
privileged children.
Tina Henderson, Director of
Personnel at KMH, said the San-
ta Tree 1s how employees of the
hospital will say Merry
Christmas this year. In previous
years, a decorating contest has
been held by city employees and
prizes are presented to the win-
ners. This year, in heu of prize
money, each employee will take
a card from the decorated tree
and buy a gift for the boy or girl
whose name 1s written on the
card. The toys and gifts will then
be distributed by Kings Moun-
tain Fire Department during its
Toys for Tot program on
Christmas Eve.
The Santa Tree went up at the
hospital ‘this week and Ms.
Henderson said that all
employees are participating in
the project.
