Cherryville Angler Wins Red Man Tourney
Joe D. Wise of Cherryville,
N.C. won $3,587.50 for his 12
Ib., 4 oz. catch in the second
Carolina Division event of the
Red Man Tournament Trail.
The tournament was held Sun-
day, April 15 on Lake Norman.
Wise, 50, caught a tourney
limit of seven bass using
Blademan white spinner bait
with copper and silver blades
and a lime skirt. Wise fished the
lower end of the lake among
bushes and grass. He is a depart-
ment manager for a trucking
firm.
A field of 287 fishermen com-
peted for a $10,762.50 purse on
Lake Norman out of Midway
Marina.
Second place winner Jim Sides
of Salisbury, N.C. caught five
bass weighing 11 lbs., 4 oz. for a
prize of $1,794. Sides, 43, used
spinner and buzz bait in shallow
water. He fished the upper end
of the lake among bushes.
Bruce Ellison of Spartanburg,
S.C. took third place with seven
bass weighing 10 lbs. 14 oz. He
earned $1,104 using black grape
curly tail worms in the bushes by
a cove. Ellison, 40, is a marine
dealer.
In fourth place was Richard
Hester of High Point, N.C. with
a 10 Ib., 13 oz. catch. Hester, a
37-year-old electrical forman,
won $482 for his three bass.
Golf Tourney To
The Kings Mountain Jaycees,
in conjunction with the Kings
Mountain Boys Club, will spon-
sor the second annual Benefit
Golf Tournament May 5-6 at
Kings Mountain Country Club.
All profits from the tourney
will go to the Boys Club.
Entry fee is $30 and includes
green fees and a free practice
round the week prior to the tour-
nament. Entry deadline is
Wednesday, May 2.
Players will be flighted based
on Saturday’s scorers and gift
certificates will be awarded to
the top three places in each
flight. Starting times will be
assigned for each day with the
earliest entries receiving prefer-

In Red Man Standings
Bruce Ellison of Spartanburg,
S.C. took the lead in the
Carolina Division, moving from
sixth place after the second C
arolina event on the Red Man
Tournament Trail.
Ellison placed third in the
April 15 tournament at Lake
Norman with a 10 pounds, 14
ounce catch. Additional poun-
dage and point totals from the
March Lake Murray event gave
Ellison a total of 92.5 points to
lead the division.
Rounding out the top five are
Jack Hoyle of Rutherfordton,
Dwight Morgan of God Hill,
Terry Ray Parker of Marion and
Robert L. Jackson of Charlotte.
Mike Seawright of Kings Moun-
tain is 20th.
The division standings are
compiled by a computer, based
on each fisherman’s poundage
and point totals. Points are
awarded to the top 50 fishermen
in each tournament.
The next Carolina Division
tournament will be held May 13
at Clark Hill Lake near Augusta,
Ga., on the South Carolina-
Georgia border. Entry deadline

N.C. came in fifth with 10 Ibs,
10 oz. for a $376 prize. Pearson,
34, caught six bass. He works as
a machinist.
The Big Bass award went to
Jack Hoyle of Rutherfordton,
N.C. for his 7 Ib. 1 oz. bass.
Hoyle won $1,108 using
homemade white spinner bait.
All Red Man events feature
the “catch and release” system.
Fishermen receive two bonus
ounces for each fish released live
to the waters.
The Carolina Division is one
of 15 geographical divisions that
make up the Red Man Tourna-
ment Trail. The Red Man
events are designed for “working
man” anglers. Entry fees for the
one-day events are $50, with 100
Aid Club
red positions.
Prizes will also be awarded
each day for closest-to-the-hole
and longest drives.

shop or by filling out the entry
form below and mailing it and

naments. Regional winners

truck and a Ranger bass boat
equipped with an Evinrude out-

finders and GNB’s Action
Pack/Super Crank batteries.
Each region’s top 12
fishermen qualify for the Red
Man All American Bass Cham-
pionship, worth $100,000 to the
winner. Major sponsors of the
Red Man trail are Techsonic In-
