FRED WELLS “There hath no temptation taken you but such is com- mon to man: But God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able: but with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”’ (I Cor. 10:13) God is ever faithful to keep his promises and should be honored by the Christian walking faithfully in accor- dance with his word. We find a man that was faithful to the end recorded in the grace and hope evangel. John Eliot, on the day of his death in his 80th year, was found teaching the alphabet to an Indian child at his bed- side, ‘Why not rest from your labors?’ said a friend. “Because said the venerable man, “I have prayed to God to make me useful in my sphere, and he heard my rayer, for now that I can no onger preach, he leaves me strength enough to teach this poor child his alphabet.” Eighty years of age, and bedridden yet still at work for others! In chaotic times such as we are living in, we all need to turn to the living God. We should remind ourselves that “God Is Faithful.” By doing so, we may be ready for any eventuality befalling us. The Corinthian Church fac- ed crucial problems. It was for such times that Paul bolstered the people’s faith with the marvelous words in I Cor. 10:13. Satan and wicked people may fail us, but God will not. One translation says: “God Keeps Faith.” Indeed he does! When, like Peter upon the waves, we see “The wind Boisterous.” We may also be assured that Christ will reach out a hand and keep us from sinking. Further more, Paul assures us that God knows our strength, ability, and power of endurance. He will not permit us to be tried beyond our ability to bear it. “For he knoweth our frame: he remebereth that we are Turn To Page 3 7:30 p.m. LONG CREEK PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Rt. 3,Box 941A Kings Mtn., N.C. 28086 Intersection of Lewis and Long Creek Roads 629-4406 Sunday School 10:00 a.m. Worship 11:00 a.m. Youth Fellowship 6:00 p.m. FIRST PRESBYTERIAN 111 E.
