Phifer, music teacher at Matthews Elemen- tary School, was elected President of the North Carolina Music Educators Association at its recent In- Service Conference held in Winston-Salem, November 10-12, 1985. Ms. Phifer received her Doctorate of Education from Columbia University, New York. Currently she is serv- ing as a mentor in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Career Development Program, President of the Charlotte City Council of Alpha Delta Kappa Interna- tional Honorary Sorority of Women Educators, and Vice- President of the Charlotte Oratorio Singers. During the summers of 1984 and 1985, Dr. Phifer was employed by the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts as a teaching assistant in conduc- ~ Reta Phifer Heads Group ting and as an assistant to the executive director. Dr. Phifer taught in South Carolina and New York prior to coming to Charlotte in 1975. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she is Director of Children’s Choirs at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Dr. Phifer is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.D. Phifer, Sr., of Kings Mountain.
