She qualified for being a national contes- tant by recently being a win- ner in America’s Royal Miss Holiday Christmas Pageant held on December 14, 1985 in Anderson, South Carolina. She won the beauty com- petition and was also chosen ~as Miss Photogenic. She . received a beautiful bucket crown, a lar Fge trophy, a cross-stitche banner, a crown pin, a charm necklace, and a large Christmas stock- ing. For her photogenic ap- peal she received a tiara, a trophy, a cross-stitched ban- ner, and a crown pin. ‘Paige also received two special awards. She received a special award for the best model, and the prettiest smile. ; Paige’s entry fee for the na- tional pageant “The National America’s Royal Miss Holi- day Pageant’ will be paid for winning the beauty, and the most photogenic appeal. Paige is the daughter of Jimmy and Renae Colvin of Bessemer City, and is an eighth grade student at Bessemer City Junior High School. She is the grand- daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Nolen of Kings Mountain, and Mr. and Mrs. Curtis L. Colvin of Bessemer City. She is also the great- granddaughter of Mrs. Ivy . Roper of Kings Mountain. Mauney Membership Chairman Mrs. Charles Mauney is membership chairman in this area for Gastonia Communi- ty Concert Association which is conducting its annual drive for members. Season tickets are now available and tickets are $18 for adults, $9 for students or ‘$50 for a family membership which includes two adults and to more students. All concerts will be held in Hunter Huss High School Auditorium and a bonus con- cert for new members will feature violonist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg on Mon- day, April 21. Slovak Chamber Or- chestra, one of the world’s ~ most distinguished and honored chamber orchestras, will perform Tuesday, Oct. 14th and Some Enchanted Evening, a revue of over 40 favorite songs by a quintet, will be held on Nov. 13th. The music of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, IIT will be featured in this pro- gram. Ballet Folclorico National De Mexico will feature the April 1987 concert prograin. A company of 50, the Ballet Folclorico is Mexico's official folk troupe in performances throughout the world. They perform a diversified pro- gram of music and dance from Mexico’s different pro- vinces with beautiful costumes, strong dancers and spirited musicians. Duke Has Services For Visually Impaired Duke Power Co. today an- nounced a special service for the visually impaired. “Starting today, customers who are visually impaired will be able to receive billing information and valuable suse y saving ideas printed raille,”’ sai Joe Uther. Branch Manager. “This service, called Energy Information in Braille, will be available at no cost to the customer. Duke Power Co. is pro- viding this service in con- junction with Metrolina Association for the Blind, a private, non-profit agency in Charlotte that serves the visually impaired. Metrolina will use their equipment to transcribe regular print into braille. Computer technology will permit data stored in Duke Power’s computers to travel by telephone wires to the computer located in Metrolina’s offices and then to its special printing equip- ment. : ‘Duke Power is one of the few utilities in the country that provides this type of ser- vice,”” said Mr. Souther. “Energy Information in Braille is one way that we can respond to customers with special needs.” Individuals interested in the service should call their local Duke Power office.
